Grandville mourns loss of former all-state wrestler

1/27 - Tragedy struck the Grandville community when former standout football player and wrestler Jono Krystiniak was attacked earlier this month in an event that eventually led to his passing.

Krystiniak was a former all-state wrestler for Grandville, finishing 6th in Division 1 his senior year.  He was also a standout on the football field as he accepted a scholarship to play at Ottawa University in Kansas, where he was named all-conference this past season.

Early in the morning on January 9th, around 2:00am, Krystiniak was leaving the Margarita Bar when he was victim to a brutal attack.  There was believed to be 8-10 suspects involved in the attack, which placed Krystiniak in critical condition, under life support to remain alive.  On January 22nd, 2008 Jono Krystiniak passed away.  He was not only a standout on the field and on the mat, but he was also a standout in life with his charismatic personality and kind nature.

The visitiation for Jono is today, Sunday January 27th and the funeral will be tommorow at St. Pius Church in Grandville.  There will also be a benefit at the Margarita Grill sometime in early February, however, the exact date has not yet been set.

Our best wishes go out to the family and friends of Jono Krystiniak, as well as the Grandville community.
