Davison duo make Midlands Final; Chippewas finish 6th

12/31 - The Davison duo of Brent Metcalf and Jon Reader both advanced to the
championship round of the prestigous Midlands Championships yesterday in
Evanston, IL.  Metcalf, the #1 ranked 149lber in the country, won with ease as
his Iowa squad won the team title. 

Reader, wrestling for Iowa State, was leading most of the 165lb final match
against Iowa's Ryan Morninstar, but gave up a late takedown to send the match to
overtime, where he would eventually lose.

Central Michigan University finished 6th overall with 6 individual placers, led by
Mike Miller, who finished 2nd at 174lbs. Miller upset the top seed in Jay Borschel
of Iowa to make the finals, where he lost a close bout to Mike Cannon of
American.  Also placing for CMU was Scotti Sentes (4th-125), Conor Beebe
(8th-133), Tony D'Alie (4th-141), Steve Brown (5th-149), and Vince DiDona
(8th-184).

Michigan State and Eastern Michigan finished tied in 23rd place with 21.5 points each.  The Spartans were without the services of All-American and #1 ranked Franklin Gomez however they had two placers in David Cheza (6th-149) and Anthony Jones (6th-157).

Olivet College's Kyle Vanderhyde placed as well, taking 6th at 174lbs.
