College season kicks off with Eastern Michigan Open
Phillips, Osterman, Collins, Beebe win EMU Open Titles

11/8 - The college season got started this weekend with the Eastern Michigan Open.
Most of Michigan's colleges were well represented and 4 grapplers from Michigan
schools came away with titles.

The only Michigander to win in the Open division was University of Michigan senior
Eddie Phillips, who won the 285lb weight class with a win over Eastern Michigan's
David Wade.  Phillips scored a 3-1 decision over Wade in the finals.

Michigan State, Michigan, and Central Michigan all boasted a champ each out of the
Freshman/Sophomore division.  Spartan true freshman Dan Osterman won the 133lb
weight with a 14-6 major decision in the finals over Corey Duncan of Lindenwood.
Osterman scored two falls and a 10-8 decision to make the finals.

University of Michigan redshirt freshman Hunter Collins won the 184lb title with a 7-4
finals win over EMU redshirt freshman and Bedford native Nick Whitenburg.  Fowlerville
native and CMU true freshman Dillon Kern fell 11-3 to Collins in the semfinals but
came back to finish 3rd.

Central Michigan true freshman Jeff Beebe, an Allendale native, won the 197lb Freshman/Sophomore division with a 5-4 win over Spencer Daniels of Lindenwood.

Three Wolverines made the finals in the open division and finished runners-up in
their weights.  Former 4x state champ Mark Weber of Goodrich scored a 5-4
decision over MSU starter Collin Dozier to make the finals, but fell to Juan Archuleta
of Purdue 2-0.  Kearsley native Aaron Hynes finished 2nd at 165lbs, losing to
returning NCAA Champ Jarrod King of Edinboro in the finals 12-2.  Anthony Biondo,
who is ranked 17th in the country, lost to 14th ranked Logan Brown of Purdue 4-3
in the 197lb finals.

Michigan State had one wrestler make the Open Division finals as Nick Palmeiri
finished 2nd at 184lbs, losing by fall to Chris Honeycutt of Edinboro.
