Michigans Top Uncommited Recruits
Updated - 6/22/08

Here is a look at the top Michigan college prospects who are still out there heading into the late signing period:

Name (School), projected college weight
1. Travis Pettengill (Flint Kearsley), 197/285 - COMMITED TO MERAMAC
Pettengill is not only the top recruit still available in Michigan but one of the
top guys out there in the country.  Off the mat issues kept Pettengill out of the
state tournament this year, however, an impressive performance at the Senior
Nationals where his only loss was an overtime thriller with Marcel Dubose
reinforced the fact that this guy is one of the best big men in the country.

2. Zac Stevens (Monroe), 125/133  SIGNED WITH MICHIGAN
Stevens had flown under many people's radar throughout his career until his eye-opening performance at senior nationals.  Stevens, who also won the D1 state title this year, emerged onto the recruiting scene as he went 8-2 at nationals to finish 4th at 125lbs.  Along the way Stevens knocked off many top name guys including top 20 ranked Danny Genetin of Ohio, so he has proven that he can wrestle with the nation's best.

3. Brett Correll (Utica Eisenhower), 285, SIGNED WITH BUFFALO
Correll was one of the bigger surprises from Senior Nationals as he knocked off a couple studs to finish 4th at heavyweight.  Correll may have never won a state title, but his wins over the 11th and 13th ranked heavyweights in the country prove he deserves to be mentioned among the nation's best heavyweights.

4. Bryan Rickard (Davison), 125  SIGNED WITH APPALACHIAN STATE
Rickard never broke through and won a state title, however, he has just as much national expierence against elite competion as anyone.  That expierence helped him last month as he took 5th at senior nationals.  Rickard is the typical Davison style wrestler, which has proven to be succesfull at the college level.  Another bonus is that he is a rare case of a little guy who will likely stay at 125 for his whole career.

5. Chris Eggert (Dundee), 165/174 SIGNED WITH EASTERN MICHIGAN
Eggert topped off his sucessfull career by finally getting a state title last month and then put together a solid showing at the Senior Nationals to further prove that he is capable of competing at the next level.  He has lacked the national exposure of the top guys in this class, however, Eggert has beaten many of Michigan's best including a win over 2x D1 champ Alex Ortman of Bedford.  Built like a college wrestler, Eggert could mold into a solid 174lber.

6. Alex Ortman (Bedford) 165 - COMITTED TO EASTERN MICHIGAN - 2x D1 state champ beating two nationally proven guys in David Johnson and Jake Bohn shows that Ortman is capable of wrestling at next level.
7. Jake Bohn (East Kentwood) 165 - SIGNED WITH GEORGE MASON - Good on his feet, Bohn is tough gritty guy that has wrestled the best over the past year in Greco/Freestyle and could develop in to solid college wrestler.
8. Justin McDermitt (Davison) 141/149 - Davison native has gritty style that suits college wrestling and alot of national expierence.  D1 state champ this year with relative ease. SIGNED WITH CENTRAL MICHIGAN
9. Donnie Corby (Croswell-Lexington) 141/149 - COMMITED TO CENTRAL MICHIGAN - D3 state champ, narrowly lost to Brumley at Senior Nationals.  Lacks alot of national exposure, therefore he is under the radar to many.
10. Garrett Rozeboom (Mason) 141/149 - State champ last year, lost to Morse this year, but Rozeboom was one match from All-American at Senior Nationals, losing in overtime to Brumley. COMMITED TO SW MINNESOTA STATE
