Big wins highlight 2009 MWA Classic

6/18 - The cast of characters were slightly
different than anticipated, however, the end
result remained the same last night in Hartland
as some of Michigan's top seniors put on a
show at the 2nd Annual MWA Classic.
The highly anticipated state champion matchup
at 160lbs did not happen, but state champs did
match up at 125 and 140lbs. At 125lbs Division
4 3x state champ Allen Krupp was impressive
with a 10-6 win over D3 champ JT Gustin. The
loss was Gustin's first in the state of Michigan
this year, as he was undefeated throughout the
high school regular season.
3x Mason state champ Craig Eifert scored an
equally impressive win over Division 1 champ
Bill Osborne at 140lbs with a 15-5 major
decision.
The 135lb weight class saw two good
matchups, first with a battle of 2008 state
champs and college bound athletes in Andrew Schutt and Mike LeHolm. Schutt, who will be wrestling for Buffalo next year, edged LeHolm 5-3. LeHolm will be heading to Ypsilanti in the fall to wrestle at EMU. The second 135lb match saw a battle of state finalists and D4 runner-up Jeff Sabin came out on top of D3 runner-up Eric Telford.
The only falls of the night came at 125 and 171, where Billy Fate of Chippewa Hills scored a big pin over Division 1 state finalist Chris Lucas of Grand Haven.
