Freestyle and Greco champs crowned in Howell

MUSAW Freestyle and Greco Roman State Championships
May 14-16  -  Howell, MI

5/17 - Michigan USA Wrestling hosted their annual Freestyle and Greco-Roman
State Meet last weekend in Howell which featured some of Michigan's best
grapplers from Pee-Wee all the way up to the Open and Masters divisions.

For youth wrestlers the tournament served as a major source for some much
needed late Fab 50 points, in addition to their quest for the "Triple Crown".
Current Fab 50 standings leader Caden Natale of Shamrock Wrestling Club, as
well as frontrunners Chris Fauson of Spartan Lightning were among the notable
youths to win Freestyle titles.

The Cadet and Junior divisions featured a ton of big name prep wrestlers,
including four 2010 MHSAA State Champions who claimed Freestyle state titles.
Adam Coon of Fowlerville was the only High School state champ in the Cadet
division, as he won at 285lbs with ease.

In the Junior Division there were three prep state champions who came away
with freestyle titles.  2x state champ Freddie Rodriguez of Holt won 119lb title
while Tyler Humes of Lakeshore won at 189lbs and Dave Severn of Bronson won
at 285lbs.

South Lyon all-stater Joe Johnson scored arguably the biggest upset of the
weekend as he knocked off Division 1 State Champ and Senior National All-American Ben Matthieson of Hol 4-4, 1-2, 4-1 to win the title at 140lbs.  Click below for full results and brackets from TrackWrestling.
