3/27 - For the third straight year, two Michigan wrestlers won Senior National Championships.  Ryen Nieman of Bullock Creek won the 135lb title while Nick McDiarmid of Hartland brought home the National Championship at 215lbs.

Nieman, who is 3x state champ ranked #2 in the nation at 135lbs, was dominant throughout the weekend and capped his impressive performance off with a technical fall in the finals over 4x Arizona State Champ Luke Goetti.

McDiarmid won another close match as he edged Illinois state champ Matthew Dwyer 3-1 in the 215lb finals.  McDiarmid, ranked 14th nationally, won a weight that included 3 other nationally ranked grapplers.

5 other seniors finished as all-americans.  Troy Lamson came back from losing his semifinal match last night to end up 3rd at 152lbs.  Lamson scored a fall in the consolation finals over Oklahoma state champ Cory Dauphin, who is ranked 19th by InterMat at 160lbs.  His only loss was a 3-2 decision to #12 Jesse Shanaman in the semifinals.

Lamson, who has yet to announce his college plans, should now become one of the most sought after recruits still available in the state of Michigan.

State Champions Ben Matthieson (125), Josh Houldsworth (145), and Jake Dorulla (171) finished in the top 6 of their respective weights and EMU bound Jake Byers earned all-american honors as well at 125lbs with an 8th place finish.
