Lowell senior Jackson Morse is 2010 MI Grappler Wrestler of The Year

4/6 - After collecting votes from the fans and coaches, it is official
- Jackson Morse is the 2009-2010 Michigan Grappler High School
Wrestler of the Year.

Morse, who won his 3rd state championship last month for Lowell
High School, continued to excel on the national stage this year.

In October, he won the Super 32 Challenge, widely considered the
toughest preseason national tournament in the country, for the
second straight year.  While winning the Super 32 is always
impressive, Morse's performance stood out as he won a weight
class that included four nationally ranked wrestlers.  He knocked
off current #3 ranked Joe Cozart of Florida in the semifinals 5-2
before out-gunning fellow Michigan standout Taylor Massa in the
152lb finals.

The Super 32 win made Morse a 2x Super 32 Champ, something
that had never been done before by a Michigander.  In 2008 as a
junior he knocked off perennial #1 Dylan Alton of Pennsylvania at Super 32s, a win that initially propelled Morse onto the national scene.

This year, Morse was set for a re-match with Alton as he was invited
to compete in the Dapper Dan Classic, a High School All-Star meet
that features the best wrestler from PA in each weight class against
the US's best.  Morse's opponent would be Alton, who came in as
the #1 ranked 152lber in the country.  About a year and a half after
their previous meeting, this time was the same result as Morse used
a late inside trip in the third period to knock Alton off once again.

The last six months have been pretty impressive for Morse as he
has beaten the #1, #3, and #4 wrestlers in the country at 152lbs
according to InterMat (Alton, Massa, Cozart).  When the new
national rankings come out, don't be suprised if Morse sits atop the 152lb weight class.

Morse's college plans were made very early as he was the first Michigan recruit to commit when he verbally committed to the University of Illinois late last summer.

The Wrestler of the Year was selected based on a MichiganGrappler.com Fan
Poll and as well as a Coaches' Poll.  Morse received 50% of the fan votes,
edging out fellow finalists Ryen Nieman and Nick McDiarmid.  In addition, about
two-thirds of the coaches voted for Morse, cementing his place in history as the
2009-2010 Michigan Grappler High School Wrestler of The Year.
