Team Grappler finishes 6th at Militia Duals
6/25 - Michigan Grappler and MYWAY sponsored a team of
high school wrestlers to compete at the Militia Duals in Duluth,
GA last weekend and going up against the best prep grapplers
in the south, Michigan finished in 6th place.
A handful of individuals put together stand out performances
over the three days of wrestling, however, Bedford sophomore
Mitch Rogaliner was the only Michigander to go unbeaten as
he was 7-0 at 111lbs. While Rogaliner was the only undefeated
wrestler, a few others also scored marquee wins.
Angelo Latora of Portage Central, who finished 3rd in the
Division 1 State Tournament this year, was 6-1 at 143lbs with
his lone loss coming to 3x TN State Champ Campbell Lewis,
who Latora was beating by a score of 14-3 when caught in a
defensive fall.
Lelund Weatherspoon, a Division 4 State Champ from
Napolean, was 6-1 at 157lbs with numerous wins over all-state
wrestlers including a 13-3 major decision over Tennesse State
Champ Josue Brown. Weatherspoon's lone loss was to
Georgia State Finalist Hunter Gamble.
Brighton sophomore Jordan Amine lost two of his first three matches, but finished strong with a 3-0 record on the final day including two wins over state champions. Amine pinned 3x South Carolina State Champ Jordan Wigger in the 1st period. Wigger has earned All-American honors in Fargo three times and is also an NHSCA Junior National All-American. Amine also scored a win over Georgia State Champ Griffin Higganbotham in the final dual of the weekend.
