12/5 - The Oxford Wildcats captured the Warren Woods-Tower
Titan Duals with a 30-28 victory over the Dundee Vikings in the
championship round.

Oxford, ranked No. 2 in Division 1 and No. 4 in the Michigan
Grappler.com “Power 15”, rode a hot start and held on late to beat
the Vikings (No. 1 in Division 3, No. 3 Power 15).

“Getting the early lead was key,” Oxford coach Brad Keeney said.
“Their last four kids are studs, real hammers. They are tough up
and down the lineup.”

Dundee took an early lead after newcomer Travis Reinhart opened
the match at 145 pounds with a 5-0 decision. Oxford then
answered with four consecutive victories from Matt Frisch, Dakota
Peasley, Ben Ralston, and Matt Anger to start a window in which
the Wildcats won six of seven matches.

“Any time two teams like this meet, every match is huge,”
Keeney said. “(Dylan) Smith’s pin at 103 was huge, (Prescott)
Line was huge at heavyweight when we bumped him up. Every
bonus point matters.”

Indeed they did, because Dundee, trailing 30-12 with four matches
to go, came on strong behind wins from four state ranked
wrestlers from 125 pounds to 140 pounds.

Mike Thomas was the hero for the Wildcats when he prevented Dundee state champion Chris Rau from pinning him and giving Dundee the win.

“We came in with high expectations,” Keeney said. “Our kids didn’t know how to handle it early, and we lost to Davison the other night. That was probably the best thing to happen to us.”

Oxford reached the finals by defeating Hazel Park (68-2), Walled Lake Northern (80-0), Goodrich (48-8), and Canton (46-16).

Dundee defeated Downers Grove (57-12), Warren Woods-Tower (64-12), Canton (46-24), and Goodrich (52-9).

Canton knocked off Goodrich 40-25 in the third place match.

Oxford returns to action next Saturday at the Romeo Bulldog Duals where it will face Romeo (No. 7 in Division 1) and Richmond (No. 2 in Division 3, No. 5 overall).
