Wildmo brings home belt at Super 32, 6 Michiganders place

11/1 - The 2010 Super 32 Challenge came to an end last night and
after two days of action and over 1500 wrestlers competing in the
high school division, 8 Michiganders ending up placing in the top 8
of their respective weight classes, including Roger Wildmo of
Durand who won the 140lb title with a 6-5 finals win over Indiana
State Champ Jason Tsirtis who is currently ranked 3rd in the
country at 135lbs.

After a dominant first day of action, Wildmo continued his
impressive run Sunday morning with a 9-2 win over Lou Mascola of
New Jersey in the semifinals and a 6-2 win over Jake Crawford of
Virginia, who is an honorable mention selection in
TheOpenMat.com's National Rankings.  Wildmo then capped off his
tournament with a bigtime win over Tsirtis who is currently rated by
InterMat as the #3 pound-for-pound junior in the country.  Wildmo
becomes the 4th Michigander in history to win the Super 32,
following 2x Champ Jackson Morse who won the last two years.
Jacob Burge (Mason) and Jon Reader (Davison) are the only other
Michiganders to ever win Super 32 belts.

2x state champs Taylor Massa was victim of one of the tournament's
biggest upsets as he fell in the semifinals in overtime to Cody
Wiercioch of Pennsylvania.  Massa stormed back with a 15-0 tech
fall and 9-1 major decision to finish 3rd at 160lbs.

Top seed Freddie Rodriguez also ran into the upset virus as he lost his final three matches at 112lbs.  Rodriguez lost to two wrestlers whom he had defeated last summer in the Semis and Consolation Semis before dropping the 5th place bout to fellow Mid-Michigander Jacob Schmitt of St Johns.

Schmitt fell to eventual champ Anthony Ashnault in the quarterfinals, whom he had defeated multiple times in the past few months as well, then scored back-to-back wins before falling 6-5 to #16 ranked Connor Schramm of PA in the consolation semifinals.

The third St Johns wreslter to place was freshman Zac Hall at 103lbs, who battled back through the consolation bracket after losing on the first day.  Hall scored three wins to start out the 2nd day before losing 7-0 to Ryan Diehl of West Virginia.  He defaulted in his finals match for 5th place.

Dundee senior Joe Rendina made it back-to-back Super 32 placings as the D3 state champ finished 8th at 125lbs.
