MHSAA Team State Finals
Kellogg Arena - Battle Creek
March 2-3
Division 1

Semifinal Results:
Rockford 32, Clarkston 19
Hartland 31, Temperance Bedford 25
full match-by-match results

Recap/News & Notes:
Rockford won the first 3 and never looked back as they held on to at least an 8 point lead throughout the dual.  Clarkston did win a couple big matches to stay in the dual, most notably Mike Maguire knocking off Rockford's top ranked Zach Johnson at 119 and Colton Tweed pulled out an overtime victory over Rockford's Alex Murray at 152.  Rockford's studs proved to be too much though, and they advance to the Finals for a showdown with Hartland.  Bedford gave Hartland a run for their money early as they were down by one going into the heavyweight bout (dual started at 135).  Hartland rallied off four in a row from 285 thru 119, however, to put Bedford out of distance.  Individually, Hartland's Jeremy Bommarito won a big match over Colin Arnold of Bedford at 145 and Bedford's Alex Ortman rebounded at 152 by taking care of Bryce Sopko with ease.  Hartland/Rockford Final should be a great dual, and the perfect matchup for the D1 State Finals.

Quarterfinal Results:
Rockford 70, Traverse City Central 6
Clarkston 58, Clinton Township Chippewa Valley 3
Temperance Bedford 39, Romeo 14
Hartland 37, Detroit Catholic Central 27
match-by-match results

Recap/News & Notes:
No big upsets in terms of team results here.  Rockford, Clarkston, Bedford all dominated.  DCC gave Hartland a lot closer dual than many may have expected.  In a huge upset, Hartland's undefeated top ranked Owen Wilkinson was handed his first loss of the year to DCC's Shea Hasenaur by a score of 9-7 in overtime.

Divsion 2

Semifinal Results
Lowell 55, Eaton Rapids 9
Allegan 49, Linden 19
match-by-match results

Recap/News & Notes:
Allegan dominated, as expected, and Lowell surprisingly crushed Eaton Rapids and continued to impress as they cruised into a final showdown with #1 Allegan.  Lowell's lightweights took out ER's toughest part of their lineup, as freshman phenom Jackson Morse of Lowell picked up a pin over 2x State Finalist Josh Dormer at 125lbs.  Lowell racked up falls at 112, 119, 125 (Morse), 130, and 135, which consisted of Eaton Rapids' best wrestlers: in addition to Morse, Tyler Jack (L) pinned state qualifier Justin Garza (ER) at 112, Zach Baum (L) stuck ER's Shane Scnepp in under 30 second, Raymond Seese pinned Justin Slapkey, and Tim Gingerich flattened Brandon Robinson.  Lowell's Rob Karasiewicz followed the pin streak with a dominant 11-4 victory over ER's Regional Champ Devin Milhiem.  Lowell looked very good and their dual with Allegan should be very close, and another GREAT state final matchup.

Quarterfinal results:
Lowell 41, Petoskey 21
Eaton Rapids 51, Lake Odessa Lakewood 10
Allegan 47, Tecumseh 17
Linden 34, Warren Woods-Tower 33
match-by-match results

Recap/News& Notes:
Eaton Rapids looked impressive back at full strength as they absolutely handled a decent Lakewood squad.  Lowell/Petoskey was closer than expected, as Petoskey picked up a couple big wins and were within striking distance going into the final few matches.  Tecumseh jumped out to a lead against top ranked Allegan and held a 17-8 lead after 160 (dual started at 125), however, Allegan's upperweights flexed their muscle and the Tigers won the final 7 bouts, 6 of them by fall to put Tecumseh away.  Linden and Warren Woods tower came down to the wire.  Linden's best wrestler Josh Freitas clinched in for them with a major decision at 112.  Lowell vs ER tommorow should be a great dual.

Division 3

Semifinal Results:
Dundee 30, Corunna 26
Richmond 36, Remus Chippewa Hills 25
full match-by-match results

Recap/News & Notes:
Two outstanding semifinal duals in Divison 3!
Dundee/Corunna dual probably should have been our State Final matchup in this division.  Starting at 152, Corunna came out strong and picked up a big win from Taylor Cochran at 160 over Dundee's Alex Good by major decision.  Corunna took a 9 point lead going into 215.  Both teams then traded victories at 215 and HVY before Dundee's lightweights put them in control.  Derek Borsvold and Josh White both pulled out huge wins over Corunna's Matt Raysin and Shayne Ballou at 103/112 before Dundee's stud Pete Rendina picked up a tech-fall over Corunna's Tyler Rosser.  Dundee's Eric Desbrough then upset Corunna's Luke Perrin at 125lbs, and at that point Dundee looked to be good with a 24-17 lead going into the final 4 bouts, however, they were not out the water yet.  Corunna's Kyle Rosser won at 130 to bring them within 4, but Adam Gerth and Justin White of Dundee won the next two to put Corunna away for good.
In another great dual, Remus Chippewa Hills had Richmond on the ropes.  Chippewa Hills' upperweights came out swinging and carried the momentum to 103 and 112, as they held a 25-9 lead with only 6 matches to go.  Richmond answered back, however, winning the final 6 matches, 4 of them by way of technical fall, to win the dual and survive to take on top ranked Dundee this afternoon.  This afternoon's dual should also be very exciting.

Quarterfinal Results:
Corunna 30, Whitehall 28
Dundee 52, Caro 13
Richmond 54, Gladstone 12
Remus Chippewa Hills 39, Hamilton 20
full match-by-match results

Recap/News & Notes:
Whitehall almost pulled off a huge upset today over Corunna, but Corunna survived to set up a marquee matchup with Dundee.  Dundee and Richmond both picked up dominant wins over Caro and Gladstone.  Dundee looked impressive and Eggert bumped up to beat one of the best 189s in D3, Mason Ley of Caro by a score of 1-0.  Hamilton picked up a couple big wins from Shawn Pitsch and Reuben Salinas who knocked off Chippewa Hills' Fate and Young that gave them a shot in the dual.  The score was tied going into the final four matches, but Chippewa Hills ran the table to end the dual with a little breathing room.  Both semifinal duals tomorow should be great.

Division 4

Semifinal Results:
New Lothrop 50, Manchester 23
Addison 46, Bronson 12
full match-by-match results

Recap/News & Notes
Addison, fresh off their thrilling win over Hesperia, dominated a tough Bronson team, only losing 3 matches, to advance to the finals with ease.  New Lothrop also looked dominant, cruising past Manchestor to setup a final matchup with Addison.  A  big individual win for Addison was Zack Phillips knocking of Bronson's Zac Chantrenne and in a bright spot for Bronson, Drew Ferry knocked off Addison's Nate Elston at 125lbs.  Manchester lost the dual to NL, however, they racked up a couple real nice individual victories as #2 ranked Dan Lobbastel pinned New Lothrop's top ranked Roger Emmerdorfer and at 103lbs James Hamilton put away NL's Blake Birchmeir by a score of 9-4. New Lothrop should give Addison a closer match than Bronson did, however, I think the D4 state champion was decided last night.

Quarterfinal Results:
Manchester 47, Bangor 16
New Lothrop 41, Leroy Pine River 22
Addison 36, Hesperia 35 (4th Tiebreak)
Bronson 31, Rogers City 25
full match-by-match results

Recap/News & Notes:
Addison knocks off Hesperia!  In a great dual that came down to the wire, Addison and Hesperia finished tied and Addison won the dual, advancing to the Semifinals by 4th tiebreak criteria.  Addison is now the team to beat and the favorite in this Division.  Rogers City game Bronson a run for there money, but fell short.  New Lothrop and Manchester cruised to their semifinal meeting tommorow.
