2010 Michigan Grappler All-Future Youth Dream Team

9/2 - The 2010 Michigan Grappler All-Future Team has been released.  The All-Future Team consists of the best youth wrestlers (K-8th grade) for 2009-2010 season.

10 wrestlers earned automatic bids onto the Dream Team by placing in the Top 10 of the Michigan Grappler Fab 50 Tournament Series, including the Top point getter and wrestler of the year.  This year's Fab 50 Wrestler of the Year was Caden Natale of Shamrock Wrestling Club, a 2nd grader who won the freestlye State Title and Viper Pit tournament, among many others last year.

A few members of this year's All-Future Team have already arrived on the high school scene with strong showings at Fargo, the Grappler Fall Classic, and the Super 32, however, read below for a look at the future of wrestling here in Michigan.

The 20 Members of the All-Future Team are invited to attend the Border Wars Folkstyle Nationals this weekend in Battle Creek to be introduced prior to the start of the tournament.  The Dream Team introduction will take place on Sunday morning at approximately 9:30am.  We ask all interested in attending to contact Tony Greathouse at admin@michigangrappler.com to confirm your attendance.

Andrew Hughes (Spartan Lightning)
52lbs - 3rd Grade
Hughes is one of three wrestlers who train at Spartan Lightning Wrestling Club to make
the All-Future team.  He was a 2010 MYWAY State Champion and excelled nationally as well,
placing in the top 4 at the Viper Pit and the Border Wars Nationals. He was also a Border Wars
Winter National Champion.  This is his 2nd straight apperance on the Dream Team.

Caden Natale (Shamrock/Grizzly Elite)
55lbs - 2nd Grade
Natale won the 2010 Fab 50 to earn Youth Wrestler of the Year honors.  He was active
throughout the entire season, winning 21 total Fab 50 events including a Freestyle State Title.
He won the always tough Viper Pit tournament in Ohio and also finished 3rd at the Border Wars
Nationals last fall.  Among his other notable tournament wins were 1st place at the Spartan
Country Kickoff and the MYWAY Top Hat.  Natale now faces the task of repeating as Fab 50
Champ, something that has not been done yet.

Jordan Hamdan (Jonesville)
58lbs - 3rd Grade
Hamdan makes his first All-Future team by way of At-Large berth after finishing last year 6th in the Fab 50.  He finished runner-up at the Border Wars Nationals, Victory at the Viper Pit, and Spartan Country Kickoff before winning the MYWAY State Championship.  He also excelled in the olympic styles, winning a Greco State Title and finishing 2nd in Freestyle.

James Johnson (Shamrock)
60lbs- 1st Grade
Johnston was an at-large selection to the All-Future team after finishing tied for 3rd in the
Fab 50 Standings.  His season was solid from start to finish as he was a Border Wars National
Runner Up last November before winning Top Hat, Spartan Country, and MYWAY State Titles during the regular season.  Johnston, the youngest Dream Team selection, also finished 3rd at the AAU Power Coal Nationals and 3rd at the Viper Pit in Ohio.

Chris Fauson (Massas Maniacs)

Fauson was a 2010 Triple Crown Winner, claiming the MYWAY State Title as well as Freestyle and Greco State Crowns.  The Eaton Rapids native was also runner-up at the Border Wars Nationals and won the Viper Pit tournament in Ohio.  He finished the year 8th in the Fab 50 Standings to earn at At-Large berth to his first All-Future Team selection.

Sage Serbenta (Lowell)
75lbs - 2nd Grade
Serbanta is the only Elementary wrestler on the All-Future team who was not an At-Large selection.  He finished 21st in the Fab 50 standings, however, he won every single Fab 50 event in which he was entered, including the MYWAY State Title as well as Freestyle and Greco state titles.  He was dominant in the state, pinning all but one opponent at the State Finals and he was also a NUWAY National Champion and Indy National Champ.

Hunter Schneider (Midland)
95lbs - 5th Grade
Schneider was busy all year long, competing in 21 Fab 50 events from September through the end of the spring and he finished 2nd in the Fab 50 final standings.  He placed top 4 at the Border Wars Nationals and Winter Nationals, as well as runner-up at the Spartan Country Kick-Off, 5th at MYWAY States, and runner-up in both styles at the MUSAW Freestyle/Greco State Finals.

Michael Ellis-Harris (Spartan Lightning)
100lbs - 4th Grade
After being named Honorable Mention to the All-Future team last year, Harris jumps up to the Dream Team this year with a 3rd place finish in the Fab 50 and an At-Large berth.  He was dominant in the state of Michigan, winning Top Hat & Spartan Country titles before claiming the MYWAY State Title.  In addition, he really excelled nationally, finishing 2nd at the Border Wars Nationals and Dixie Nationals, as well as 3rd place finish at the Viper Pit in Ohio.

Jesus Jimenez (Spartan Lightning)

Honorable Mention: Tyler Morland (XXX), Jordan Schmaltz (Holt), Brenden Zelenka (St Johns), Andrew Flick (Niles)

MIDDLE SCHOOL

Alex Hrisopoulous (CMS)
75lbs - 6th Grade
Hrisopoulous emerged as a heavy hitter on the Michigan youth scene this year as he dominated the MYWAY 11-12 76lb division en route to the state title.  Hrisopoulous also won the MMWA State title and he excelled nationally, garnering titles at the Eastern World Championships in West Virginia and the Viper Pit in Ohio.

Hunter Fifield (CMS)
80lbs - 7th Grade
Fifield was an at-large selection, finishing 10th in the Fab 50 Standings and he is making his first appearance on the All-Future Team.  He won the Triple Crown of State Titles, taking home the MYWAY State Championship in addition to Freestyle and Greco State Titles.  He also won the MYWAY Spartan Country tournament and flexed some muscle on the national scene as well finishing runner-up at the Viper Pit.

Lincoln Olson (CMS)
85lbs - 7th Grade
Olson is back on the All-Future team for the second straight year as is part
of the CMS/Davison contingent of stud youth wrestlers.  He was dominant in the state, winning MMWA, Freestyle, and Greco State Titles.  He was as active as anyone competing out the state, winning a Viper Pit title and placing at the Super 32 Middle School Division.  In addition, he competed on an array of All-Star Duals teams, including the Schoolboy Team Michigan where he went 12-4 at the Freestyle/Greco National Schoolboy Duals.  He also looked good at the Virginia Duals, scoring a big win over Tyler Casamenti of New Jersey who was a Cadet National Runner-Up in Fargo this summer.

Ben Griffin (Canton)
91lbs - 8th Grade
Griffin is a freshman this year at Canton and could be one of the top lightweights in the state this year after a successful youth season last year as an 8th grader.  He proved that he can compete on the national stage by placing 5th at the Super 32 last fall and followed that up with a MYWAY State title and NUWAY National title last spring.  This fall he continued to excel with a dominant showing at the Grappler Fall Classic, winning the 98lb title.

Brenden McRill (CMS)
95lbs - 6th Grade
McRill makes his 3rd straight All-Future Team after finishing 14th in the Fab 50
Standings competing in just 7 Fab 50 events.  The Davison native won a  MYWAY
State title again this year and continued to thrive on the national scene.   He won the
Border Wars Nationals last fall, finished Runner-up at the Viper Pit in Ohio, and was
3rd at the Ohio Tournament of Champions.  In addition, he went undefeated at the
AAU Elementary National Duals in Kingsport, TN.  He is part of a solid group of
middle schoolers coming up that have people talking about the future of the
Davison program

Zac Hall (St Johns/Massas Maniacs)
98lbs - 8th Grade
As Hall enters his prep career this year, he leaves as a 4x All-Future Team selection, being named to the Youth Dream team every year that Michigan Grappler has been doing it.  This year Hall was not in action at many state-level events in Michigan, however, he excelled nationally placing 3rd in Tulsa and earning Cadet Freestyle All-American honors in Fargo.  This is the All-Future Team, however, the future is now for Hall as
he is the #1 ranked 103lber in our Preseason High School rankings after winning
the Grappler Fall Classic last month.

Cole Weaver (Hudson)
110lbs - 8th Grade
Weaver did not compete in the Fab 50, however, his presence was well felt
over the past year as the Hudson freshman was one of the top middle school
wrestlers in Michigan.  Weaver won the MUSA State Titles in Freestyle and Greco-
Roman and he placed at the Super 32 in the Middle School Division last fall and he
was also 8-2 at the Schoolboy Duals, going 4-1 in both Freestyle and Greco-Roman.
He is only a couple months into his prep career and Weaver has already made a
name for himself on the national scene, knocking off Cadet National Champ Phillip
Laux of Iowa at the Grappler Fall Classic last month.

Jacob Cooper (Springport/Spartan Lightning)
112lbs - 7th Grade
Cooper received an At-Large berth after finishing last year 7th in the Fab 50 Standings.  The Springport native was a Border Wars National Runner-Up.  He finished runner up at the MYWAY State Finals as well and won tournament titles at the MYWAY Top Hat and Spartan Country preseason events.

Logan Marcicki (Shamrock)
115lbs - 8th Grade
Marcicki, much like Hall, was not around at many of the in-state events throughout
the year, however, he has left little doubt that he is one of the premiere up and coming wrestlers in Michigan.  He placed 3rd at the Tulsa Nationals last year and was a match from placing in Fargo at the Cadet Freestyle Nationals.  In addition, the current DCC freshman was 7-3 at the Cadet Greco National Duals.  He showed his potential a couple weeks ago at the Grappler Fall Classic, knocking off two Top-20 seniors en route to a runner-up finish at 130lbs.

Angus Arthur (Spartan Lightning)
144lbs - 8th Grade
Arthur joins Zac Hall as the only other 4x All-Future Team selection as he continued to thrive as one of the elite youth wrestlers in Michigan.  He did not get to many Fab 50 events, however, Arthur was dominant on the national scene winning a TOC National Title and going a combined 14-2 at the Schoolboy National Duals in Indiana.

Drew Garcia (Shamrock)
152lbs - 8th Grade
Garcia, who is a freshman at Detroit Catholic Central this year, was quietly one of the best middle school wrestlers in the state last year.  He proved himself nationally in folkstyle, freestyle, and greco-roman.  In folkstyle, he finished runner-up at the prestigous Tulsa Nationals and had a successfull summer competing as a Cadet in Freestyle & Greco.  He went 4-2 in Fargo at the Cadet Freestyle Nationals, falling just short of placing, and went 3-2 in Greco with a win over All-American Burke Paddock of New York.
