Michigan Grappler College Report - Week 2
11/28 - This past weekend marked the start of the dual-meet season for all D-1 programs in Michigan. Below is a quick listing of the highlights from the opening weekend in terms of Michigan's college wrestling teams.
Chipps 3-1 at Northeast Duals
Central Michigan went 3-1 at the Northeast Duals with a pair of 1-point wins over Top 20 teams. The Chipps, ranked #21 in the country, knocked off #14 American 21-20 and #16 Rutgers 16-15. CMU then fell to #12 Maryland 23-15. Joe Roth was 4-0 on the day for CMU at 125lbs and Christian Cullinan went 3-0 at 133lbs. A handful of Chipps scored big wins on the day including heavyweight Peter Sturgeon who knocked off #6 Spencer Myers of Maryland. Sturgeons lone loss was the returning NCAA Runner Up Ryan Flores of American.
EMU knocks off Sacred Heart and Bucknell
Eastern Michigan moved to 3-1 on the season as they went 2-1 at the Northeast Duals in Troy, NY. The Eagles scored dominant wins over Sacred Heart (49-3) and Bucknell (35-9) before falling 22-12 to #24 Binghamton. Three Eagles went 3-0 on the day - Jared Germaine (125), Andrew Novak (133), and Philip Joseph (174).
