Michigan teams dominant opening day at Disney Duals
6/24 - The 2008 Disney Duals got underway today in Orlando and all
three of Michigan's teams jumped out to fast starts. As a whole the
state of Michigan went 5-0 on the day today as MI Red and Blue each
picked up two wins and Michigan Freeze won their only dual of the day
over Arrichon, out of North Carolina.
Michigan Red shutout Team Off in their opening round dual and then
picked up a win over the Florida National Guard squad. Michigan Blue
opened up with a win over New Mexico 56-6 and then picked up their
2nd victory over Keystone Black, representing Pennsylvania.
Some notable individual matchups from the first day of action came in the
Michigan Blue dual vs New Mexico as New Mexico boasts top ranked
wrestlers at 130 and 135lbs. Craig Eifert of Mason picked up a 8-7 win over Louis Trujillo at 130lbs. Trujillo was a NHSCA Sophomore National Champion this spring and is ranked 3rd in the InterMat Sophomore National Rankings. At 135lbs New Mexico's Max Ortega ranks as 4th best 140lb junior in the country. Josh Houldsworth of Holly gave Ortega a run today, losing 6-2.
