Lyon, Walters, Bohn win final matches in Junior Greco
Walters wins his 9th match of the tournament
Junior Greco Roman Recap
7/22/2008 - Fargo, ND
Jake Walters has never placed in Fargo as a Cadet, so entering this year as
a first year Junior hardly anyone could of expected him to finish very high this
year. However, Walters came out of nowhere and wrestled out of his mind
the last three days to finish 3rd at 125lbs in Junior Greco-Roman.
"Everyone of my coaches said I have looked good so I thought I could do
well," said Walters, "I felt my top and bottom has been real good."
Walters won his final match the same way he won most of his other
matches, by battling on his feet and suceeding from the clinch position. He
downed Jacob Kauffman of Oregon in two straight periods scoring 5 of his 6
points from the clinch.
Also winning their final matches today was Brenan Lyon at 98lbs and Jake
Bohn at 152lbs. With his tech fall win over Mike Dauterive of Texas Lyon is
now a 5x Cadet/Junior All-American after finishing as a cadet double
all-american the past two years.
Bohn claimed his 2nd straight Junior Greco All-American honor by finishing
7th at 152lbs. Bohn scored a 2nd period fall over returning Cadet Greco
National Champ Kyle Detmer of Kansas in the 7th place bout.
Mike Curby and Bryant Craft fell short in their final bouts. Curby lost a three period battle to Patrick Martinez of California to finish 6th at 160lbs. Curby is now a 2x Greco All-American after finishing runner-up in Cadet Greco a year ago. Craft, meanwhile, earned his first Greco All-American honor. He was a FILA Cadet National runner up last year in freestyle.
Action will now shift to freestyle here in Fargo as the Cadets will begin tommorow morning at 9:00am. Michigan's cadet freestylers appear to be very strong with many all-american candidates and tommorow morning should be action packed. Follow all the action right here all day tommorow.
