2008 TEAM STATE FINALS PREVIEW

Division 2

Quarterfinal Matchups:
Oxford vs Tecumseh
Mt Pleasant vs Eaton Rapids
Hazel Park vs Greenville
Hastings vs Stevensville Lakeshore

The Division 2 team finals will not be quite as action packed as the D1 duals.  Eaton Rapids is the team to beat after they beat Mason in a regional thriller and they appear to be on a collision course with Greenville.  There doesn't appear to be anyone that can stop either team. Therefore, we are going straight to the point and getting right into the ER/Greenville dual:

#2 Eaton Rapids vs #3 Greenville
Potential matchups:
103 – Blackwell (ER) vs #10 J Hansen (G)
112 – #7 C Dormer (ER) vs #1 Keselring/Martinez (G)
119 – #10 Garza (ER) vs #1 Keselring/Martinez (G)
125 - #1 J Dormer/#7 Sklapsky (ER) vs Peterman (G)
130 - #1 J Dormer/#7 Sklapsky (ER) vs Donnelly (G)
135 - Schnepp (ER) vs C Fuller (G)
140 - McCoy (ER) vs #3 Miller/Ladderman (G)
145 - #2 Martin Bell (ER) vs #3 Miller/Ladderman (G)
152 - #1 Milheim/#9 Chapman (ER) vs Brodie (G)
160 - #1 Milheim/#9 Chapman/#5 Matt Bell (ER) vs #8 Tyler Fuller (G)
171 - #5 Matt Bell (ER) vs #7 Gibson (G)
189 - Grant (ER) vs #9 Drobish (G)
215 - Franks (ER) vs #6 I Hansen (G)
285 - #4 Hendrickson (ER) vs #7 Hendrick (G)
There are alot of changes that could happen as both teams have flexibility in a couple spots.  ER has alot of options from 145 through 160 with all-staters Martin Bell and Milheim, along with state qualifiers Chapman and Matt Bell, and then you throw in Blake Strank at 145 and they have a fleet of solid kids to throw out and get matchups they want.  Looking at these probables and it could be a 7-7 split.  ER is favored at 119, 125, 130, 145, 152, 160, and 285.  Greenville should win 103, 112, 135, 140, 171, 189, and 215.  That means it will take bonus points or someone to step up with an upset to win this dual.  Here are some weights to watch/things to consider:
112/119 - Kesselring is down to 112, however, he has been at 119 this year as well.  Since Greenville doenst really have anyone that can give Dormer a run for his money at 112, it would be pointless to bump Kesselring to wrestle Garza, therefore, expect to see him stay at 112 and try to get bonus points against Dormer.  Dont count out Dormer, he is always a threat to pin.
152/160/171 - Tully Chapman gives ER alot of flexibility here.  He has done well at districts and regionals, losing only to teammate Milheim.  ER may try to stretch out him, Milhiem, and the bigger Bell to try and get an extra win.  That would put Chapman on Brodie, Milhiem on Fuller, and Bell on Gibson, all matches that could go either way. No matter how they juggle it 152-171 could the difference in this dual.
Here is how we see it match-by-match:
103 - Hansen dec (3-0 G); 112 - Kesselring majdec (7-0 G); 119 - Garza majdec (7-4 G); 125 - Sklapsky pin (10-7 ER); 130 - Dormer majdec (14-7 ER); 135 - Fuller dec (14-10 ER); 140 - Miller pin McCoy (16-14 G); 145 - Bell pin (20-16 ER); 152 - Chapman dec (23-16 ER); 160 - Milheim dec (26-16 ER); 171 - Gibson dec (26-19 ER); 189 - Drobish dec (26-22 ER); 215 - Hansen dec (26-25 ER); 285 - Hendrickson dec (29-25 ER)
