Individual matchups to watch for in this pool:
- 152lbs: Ryan Mack (Richmond), Jeremy Bommarito (Hartland), Jon Domsitz (Roscommon), Levi Phelps (Lakewood) - Wow this pool should be renamed the 152lb pool as it is loaded with studs from 145 through 160. The best matchup to see would probably be D1 state champ Bommarito vs D3 runner up Mack. These guys are both currently ranked #1 in the state as Mack is #1 in D3 at 152 while Bommarito is #1 at 145 in D1. Bommarito has been down to 145 this year and another state champ Matt Bain could be wrestling here as well depending on what coach Cheney and the Eagles want to do, either way it should be a great matchup. Domsitz was an all-state 2 years ago and is currently ranked 4th in D3 at 152 while Phelps placed last year and is currently ranked 5th. Phelps has been up in weight alot this year so we could see him at 160 this weekend which would line him up for a match with Roscommon's #2 ranked 160lber Trevor Tyle. When the 145lbers start coming up you better be watching pool A.
Individual matchups to watch for:
- 103lbs: Collin Zeerip (Hesperia) vs CC Weber (Goodrich) - Zeerip is #1 in division 4 right now and he placed over CC at the TOC, however, Weber is one of the best female wrestlers in the country right now and is a gamer with big match expierence who is always a threat to win a big one. Weber is currently ranked 6th in D3.
- 119lbs: Jon Hren (Hesperia) vs David Garr (Goodrich) - While these two are not the big names of the dual they are both very solid wrestlers and very important for their teams. A matchup like this could be a swing match as both teams may be counting on a win here.
- 125lbs: Kirk Britton (Goodrich) vs Kyle Dalton (Middleville TK) - Britton has been at 130 much of the year, however, this could be an interesting matchup. Dalton is a D2 placer currently ranked 4th in his division and may even bump for a crack at Britton if the dual is out of reach.
- 135lbs: Malcom Martin (Hesperia) vs Grant Overcashier (Goodrich) - A rematch of the TOC Finals from last month where Overcashier held off Martin for a 6-4 win. Martin turned some heads with his TOC performance and will likely be looking for another crack at Overcashier.
Individual matchups to watch for:
- 119lbs - Steve Poffenberger (Allegan) vs Justin Garza (Eaton Rapids) - This would be a #3 vs #7 matchup as returning placer Poffenberger and returning qualifier Garza are both contenders in D2. Garza has had some decent wins and close losses, however, he needs that big win to prove he is for real and this would be that for him.
- 130lbs - Josh Dormer (Eaton Rapids) vs Nick Bara (Romeo) - Dormer and Bara are arguably ER and Romeo's best wrestlers, and they may wrestle each other. Dormer, a 2x state finalist, is ranked #1 at 125 in D2 but usually wrestles 130 for the Greyhounds in duals. Bara is ranked 4th at 130 in Division 1.
- 160/171 - John Rizgallah (Allegan) vs Matt Bell (Eaton Rapids) - Rizgallah came on strong as a freshman last year and has had to develop quickly into one of the anchors for Allegan this year. Bell failed to qualify for states last year, but has is an expeirenced senior with alot of big matches and big wins under his belt. This should be be fun to watch as both these guys are gritty and like to push the action. Rizgallah is currently ranked 4th at 160 while Bell is 8th.
Individual matchups to watch for:
- 125lbs - Pete Rendina (Dundee), Cody Wray (Montrose), Matt Dietz (Clarkston), Josh Freitas (Linden) - Rendina and Wray are #1 and #3 in Division 3 right now. Wray has looked good this season so far with a big win over state runner up Kirk Britton of Goodrich and Rendina is coming off a 6-2 loss to Zac Stevens last weekend at the Monroe Sherriff's tourney, so Wray will be coming in looking for a statement win. Throw in Dietz and Freitas and Pool D's 125s are looking like Pool A's 152s. Dietz won the Oakland County Tournament and is currently ranked 6th in D1. Freitas is a state qualifier ranked 8th in D2.
- 171lbs - Adam Lauzun (Clarkston), Chris Eggert (Dundee), Brandon Boone (Montrose) - Eggert was a runner up last year and scored a big win over Alex Ortman at 160 last weekend. Although he has been down to 160, he has wrestled most of the year at 171 and wrestled all of last season at 171 so it would not be a stretch to see him wrestling up against Lauzun as long as the dual is in hand. This should be a great matchup between 2 of the best kids in the state at this weight. Both seniors, Lauzun is #2 in division 1 behind only Ben Bennett and Eggert is #1 at 160 in D3. Brandon Boone of Montrose will also give these guys a run for their money in this pool. He is ranked #4 in D3 at 171 after beating state placer Adam Tabit of Mt Morris earlier this year and falling 4-1 to Goodrich's Kyle March.
