Prep Report - Week 2 Recap

Division 1
#1 Detroit Catholic Central: Detroit Catholic Central started the season by dominating some of the states top teams in week one, and week two was more of the same for the red hot Shamrocks.  On Wednesday DCC defeated second ranked Davison by an impressive score of 47-21.  The Shamrocks also knocked off D3 #5 Swan Valley by a score of 64-9.  On Saturday the Shamrocks dominated a very tough Kent County tournament.  DCC finished well ahead of a very tough field that included D1 #5 Rockford, D2 #3 Stevensville Lakeshore and D2 #5 Greenville.  The Shamrocks are having an excellent start to the season and appear to be a serious powerhouse in Division 1.

#2 Davison: For the second straight week the young Cardinals were pitted against some very strong competition from across the state.  On Wednesday Davison went up against Division 1’s top ranked Catholic Central.  Davison fell 47-21 to the shamrocks, but their young lineup gained some valuable experience against one of the state’s premier teams.  On Wednesday Davison also turned a solid 45-33 win over D2 #9 Linden.  On Saturday the Cardinals had a very strong performance, claiming first place honors as they hosted the Chase Challenge.  Davison claimed first place honors with a strong 41-28 win over D2 #7 Tecumseh.

#3 Oxford: It was a good weak for the Wildcats who scored big wins over several very strong teams.  On Wednesday Oxford turned in a dominating 50-7 win over D1 #10 Clarkston. The Wildcats were very impressive on Saturday at the Romeo Team Tournament, claiming first place with a big 42-16 win over Division 3’s second ranked Richmond.  Oxford has rattled off several big wins and appears to have responded very well after losing to Davison in week 1.

#4 Hartland: The Eagles are off to an impressive start to the season.  After claiming first place honors at Lake Orion last weekend, Hartland emerged victorious at their own invitational this Saturday.  Hartland bested Division 3’s third ranked Lake Fenton to claim first place.  The Eagle have looked very strong so far this season and appear capable of playing a factor in the Division 1 title race.

#5 Rockford: Rockford turned in a solid performance in week two, finishing fourth at Saturday’s Kent County Classic.  The Rams finished within just a few points behind second and third place winners D2 #3 Stevensville Lakeshore and D2 #5 Greenville.  The fact that Rockford was able to score so many points without an individual champion indicates that this team is very solid from top to bottom.

#6 Temperance Bedford: Bedford hosted their annual invitation on Saturday and claimed second place.  The Mules finished behind Division 3’s top ranked Dundee and ahead of Southgate Anderson.

#8 Brownstown Woodhaven: Woodhaven continued their very strong start to the season with another impressive week of wrestling.  Woodhaven continued their winning ways on Wednesday defeating Gibraltar Carlson 48-22.  The Warriors then finished out the week with a first place finish at the New Boston Huron Invitational

#9 Livonia Franklin: It was another good week for the Patriots who won their sixth consecutive city championship.  Franklin scored over 100 points more than any of their city rivals in their dominant first place finish.

#10 Clarkston: The Wolves tested themselves against some very tough competition in week two.  Tenth ranked Clarkston met with third ranked Oxford in a dual meet on Wednesday that saw the Wolves lose by a score of 50-7.  On Saturday Clarkston attended the Howell Highlander Classic where they fell short of the top five in a tough field that included D3 #4 Chippewa Hills, D3 #10 Otsego, Howell, Monroe and D2 #8 Mason.



Division 2

#1 St. Johns: St. Johns continued to dominate in week two, cruising past Jackson Northwest and Jackson by scores of 72-3 and 74-0.  The Red Wings are off to a dominating start and it is going to take a big effort for anyone to unseat them as Division 2 champions.

#2 Allegan: The Tigers continued their strong start as they claimed their second consecutive first place tournament finish.  Allegan was lead by seven champions to a first place finish at they Wyoming Park Invitational.  The Tigers finished 79 points of second place Middleville Kellogg.

#3 Stevensville Lakeshore: Lakeshore was attendance at the Kent County Classic this weekend where they claimed third place in a very tough field.  The Lancers finished behind #1 D1 Detroit Catholic Central and D2 #5 Greenville and ahead of D1 #5 Rockford and were lead by the efforts of three individual champions.

#4 Lowell: The Red Arrows competed at the very competitive Chase Challenge at Davison this Saturday.  Lowell was 4-1 on the day, with their only loss coming to Tecumseh in 27-27 match that was determined by the seventh criteria.

#5 Greenville: The Yellow Jackets of Greenville looked impressive on Saturday, taking home a runner up finish at the Kent County Classic.  Greenville finished behind only #1 D1 Detroit Catholic Central and ahead of very tough teams including D2 #3 Stevensville Lakeshore and D1 #5 Rockford.

#6 Holly: The Bronchos traveled to Howell on Wednesday where they squared of with Division 3 and Division 4’s top ranked teams.  Holly was competitive but ultimately fell 45-20 to Dundee and 45-27 to Hudson in some of Wednesday’s top dual meet action.

#7 Tecumseh: It was another strong weekend for the Indians who took home a second place finish at Davison’s Chase Metcalf Challenge on Saturday.  Tecumseh scored a huge 27-27 win off the 7th criteria over Lowell to earn a spot in the top two. The Indians only loss came to host D1 #2 Davison in a hard fought 41-28 dual.

#8 Mason: Eighth ranked Mason traveled to Howell on Saturday to compete in the very tough Highlander Classic.  Mason had a solid fifth place finish behind a tough group of teams including D2 #4 Chippewa Hills, D3 #10 Otsego, Howell and Monroe.

#9 Linden: Linden hosted some of the state’s top teams in a very a tough quad meet on Wednesday.  Linden lost two tough duals, falling to D1 #1 Davison 45-33 and D3 #5 Swan Valley 42-42 on the eighth criteria.  On Saturday Linden hosted a team tournament where they finished in second place behind only D3 #6 Birch Run.

#10 Grand Rapids Northview: On Saturday Northview competed in the very competitive Kent County Classic.  Northview finished tenth in a strong group that included four teams ranked in the top five in their division.


Division 3

#1 Dundee: On Wednesday Division 3’s top ranked Dundee Vikings traveled to Howell where they wrestled some strong competition.  Dundee powered past D2 #6 Holly and Howell by scores of 45-20 and 54-15.  On Saturday Dundee claimed first place at the Temperance Bedford Invitational, finishing over 80 points ahead of second place Bedford who is ranked sixth in Division 1.

#2 Richmond: Richmond traveled to the very tough Romeo Duals on Saturday where they compiled a 4-1 record and finished the day second place.  The Blue Devils fell to Division 1’s third ranked Oxford by a score of 42-16 in their only loss of the day.   The returning state champs were missing some integral parts of their lineup who should play big roles for them this post season.

#3 Lake Fenton: The Blue Devils traveled to the Hartland invitation on Saturday.  Lake Fenton fell short of Division 1’s 4th ranked Hartland and finished the day in second place ahead of third place Goodrich.

#4 Remus Chippewa Hills: Chippewa Hills had impressive performance in week 2, claiming first place at the Howell Highlander Classic on Saturday.  Chippewa Hills came out on top in a very strong field that included D1 #10 Clarkston, D2 #8 Mason, D3 #5 Swan Valley D3 #10, Howell and Monroe.  It was a very good showing for Chippewa Hills who appears to be a serious threat in Division 3.

#5 Swan Valley: On Wednesday Swan Valley battled in duals meets with two ranked teams in Detroit Catholic Central. Swan Valley fell to Division 1’s top ranked DCC 64-9, but picked up 42-42 win over Linden that was determined by the eighth criteria.  The Vikings competed at the Howell Highlander Classic Saturday where they fell short of the top five behind a strong group including D3 #4 Chippewa Hills, D3 #10 Otsego, Howell, Monroe and D2 #8 Mason.

#6 Birch Run: Birch Run continued their impressive start to the season, dominating their way to a championship at the Linden Team Tournament.  Birch Run was 5-0 on the day; defeating D2 #9 Linden 58-16 to take home first place honors.  The Panthers are off to an excellent start this season and appear to be a team to watch in D3.

#9 Midland Bullock Creek: The Lancers traveled to Caro on Saturday where they turned in their best performance of the young season.  Bullock Creek was dominant at Caro’s individual tournament, scoring over 100 more team points than second place Saginaw Heritage:

#10 Otsego: Otsego had a very impressive weekend, claiming second place at the very deep Howell Highlander Classic.  Otsego finished behind only fourth ranked Chippewa Hills and finished ahead of several ranked teams from various divisions including D1 #10 Clarkston, D2 #8 Mason and D3 #5 Swan Valley.



Division 4

#1 Hudson: The returning state champs traveled to Howell on Wednesday where they faced off against a pair of tough opponents.  The Tigers wrestled well defeating Howell and D2 #8 Mason by scores of 42-23 and 45-27.  On Saturday Hudson claimed first place at the Jackson Area Wrestling Showdown thanks to an impressive 50-18 win over sixth ranked Manchester.

#5 Springport: On Wednesday Springport opened their conference season with a dominating 84-0 shutout of Concord.

#6 Manchester: The Dutchmen were in action at the Jackson Area Wrestling Showdown on Saturday where they finished the day in second place.  Manchester score a 42-27 win over returning state finalist Addison.  The only loss of the day for Manchester was to Division 4’s top ranked Hudson by a score 50-18 in a likely to team regional preview.

#9 Constantine: Ninth ranked Constantine was able to capture a first place finish at the Sturgis Team Tournament Saturday.  Constantine won a close 33-27 dual over host Sturgis to claim the championship.
