6/11 - Joe Warren is set for another run at the World Championship as he continued his dominance over the 60kg weight class. Warren defeated Joe Betterman in the best of three challenge series without losing a single period. He won the first match 6-0, 7-2 and then finished Betterman off with a 2-1, 6-0 win in the 2nd match.
Former world team member and UM standout Andy Hrovat won the 84kg challenge tournament, but fell to Joe Williams in the best of three challenge series. Also falling just short was CMU Assistant Coach Casey Cunningham who lost 2 matches to 1 to Joe Heskett in the final challenge series at 74kg.
At 55kg, Nick Simmons first post-college run at the World Team fell just short as he was knocked off by Matt Azevedo in the finals of the challenge tournament.

In women's action former Montrose HS wrestler Brandy Rosenbrock finished 3rd at 55kg, losing in the finals of the challenge tournament to Sharon Jacobson of Gator WC. Escanaba native Alaine Berube was upset in the 63kg quarterfinals but stormed back winning 3 in a row, including a win over World medallist Tina George, to claim third.
Also in action this weekend on the men's side was Davison grad Brent Metcalf who went 2-2, knocking off former Olympic Gold Medallist Kendall Cross along the way at 66kg. Metcalf lost to Jared Frayer and Eric Larkin, respectively. UM All-American Tyrel Todd (84kg), former UM and Novi HS standout Ryan Churella (74kg) and Franlin Gomez of MSU (60kg) all went 1-2 on the weekend in freestyle action.
