Angus Arthur crowned double champion at Asics Kids Nationals
2008 Asics Kids Freestyle & Greco Roman Nationals

7/9 - Michael Pixley of Illinois probably entered the Asics Kids Nationals last
weekend with hopes and dreams of capturing the USAW Triple Crown, however,
Lainsburg's Angus Arthur stopped him in his tracks. Pixley cruised through the
last April's Asics Folkstyle Nationals in the Novice 100lb weight class and
entered last weekend as the man to beat at 100lbs, but he ended up finishing
runner-up in both freestyle and greco roman as Arthur downed him in both finals
matches to win double titles in both styles.
Arthur, who also won a Ohio TOC crown this past spring, went 9-0 all together on the weekend. In the greco roman finals he downed Pixley in two straight stanzas 5-1, 3-0, however, the freestyle finals were not so easy. Pixley took the first period of the freestyle final 5-4, then Arthur battled back to win the final two periods 1-0, 2-2 to win the Freestyle National Title.
Arthur was the only Michigan youngster to win in either style last weekend, however, 6 others earned all-american status in both styles. Midgets Lucas Hall, Mason Rife, and Shane Foster placed top three in both styles while Novice wrestlers Matthew Miller and Schoolboys Martin Rodriguez and Payne Hayden placed in both styles as well.
In freestyle Foster, Miller, Hayden and Shon Powell all won their pool to advance to the finals, but fell short to finish as National Runners-Up in their respective weights. Martin Rodriguez made the Greco-Roman finals in schoolboy 70lbs, but fell to Grant Boggs of Montana.
