Muskegon CC Jayhawk grapplers finish 9th in nation

2/28 - The National Junior College Championships wrapped up
this weekend and Muskegon Community College finished 9th in
the nation with four All-Americans.

The Jayhawk wrestlers battled back from adversity and climbed
back into the top ten after a devastating round Friday night took
them from 3rd place to outside the top ten.

"While a top five finish was our goal going in to this tournament,
we are definitely still pleased with the way we battled back and
got ourselves back into the top ten," remarked coach Larry
Haughn.  "We finished with four All Americans and had a
spectacular season with a group of men that were great on and
off the mat.  Three of those All-Americans are freshmen which
will set us up nicely for next season."

While the Jayhawks didn't have anyone wrestling in the
championship finals they weren't finished winning special awards.  Freshman Eric Telford was the National Tournament winner of the Most Falls award.  On his way to winning All-American honors and finishing sixth in the nation at 157lbs, Telford recorded four pins.

Other Jayhawk All-Americans included Sean Turner (4th at 141), Trent Flegel (5ht at 197), and Ryan Steverson (8th at 285).

Former 2x state champ Jeremy Bommarito of Hartland finished runner-up at 157lbs competing for North Idaho College.  Bommarito lost 4-2 to PJ Starnes of Harper College in the finals to finish as NJCAA National Runner-Up.
