Iron River's Spitza strikes gold at Pan Ams

CADET PAN AMERICAN CHAMPIONSHIPS
SAN SALVADOR, EL SALVADOR

7/14 - Iron River's Jennifer Spitza got the opportunity
to represent her country at the Cadet Women's Pan
Am Championships last weekend in San Salvador,
El Salvador and she took advantage of her
opportunity by winning the 65kg championship with
back-to-back falls.

Spitza, who qualified for the Pan American Games
by winning the Body Bar Tournament back in May,
secured a 2nd period fall over Nicaragua's Aracelly
Martinez in the finals to claim the gold medal.  Team
USA won the overall team championships as well as
four other American grapplers won gold in addition to
Spitza.

Spitza will have little time to soak up her victory as
she will now be traveling to Fargo, ND this weekend
for the Women's Junior National Championships,
that will run at the same time as the Cadet & Junior
National Championships.

Spitza and her Iron River teammate Brenda Brzoznowski will be joining the rest of Michigan's premiere female wrestlers in Fargo.  Check back later this week for an in depth preview of the Women's Nationals as well as the Cadet and Junior divisions.
