6 Cadets lock up Greco All-American status, Massa makes Finals
7/19 - Six Michigan Cadets locked up All-American honors today in the
2nd day of Greco-Roman action, including Taylor Massa who advanced
to the 152lb Cadet Greco-Roman Finals.
Massa, who was a Cadet Double Champion a year ago, scored two
more techinal falls this afternoon to win his pool and secure his spot in
the finals. He is now just one win away from his 3rd Fargo title. Massa
has yet to lose a period and won every match via technical fall.
Four other Cadets remain undefeated heading into the third and final day
of action.
Ben Whitford rattled off two shutout wins this afternoon to improve his
record to 7-0. Whitford, who scored a 5-0, 1-0 win over double FILA
Cadet All-American Nathan Kraisser of Maryland, is now just one win
away from the 112lb finals. Tommorow morning Whitford will wrestle
Hunter Weber of Wisconsin, who lost today to Brandon Jeske of Virginia,
who Whitford beat yesterday.
Jacob Schmitt did not wrestle at all today and will wrestle his final pool
match tommorow morning against returning Double All-American Colton
Howell of Missouri for a spot in the 91lb finals.
Devin Pommerenke is also just one win away from the Greco-Roman
finals. Pommerenke scored his 4th win this afternoon at 285lbs and he
will now meet Orry Elor of California tommorow morning for a spot in the finals. Elor is also undefeated and has not given up a point thus far in the tournament.
Anthony Abro of Canton continued his impressive run at 189lbs with another win today, improving his record to 5-0. Abro now moves into a 3-man round robin to win his pool and has secured that he will place no lower than 6th.
The final Cadet who has locked up All-American status is Alex Calandrino of Howell, who lost his first match today at 105lbs. Calandrino fell to returning Cadet Double All-American Joey Dance of Virginia in his final match of the day, however, he still has one more bout against Skylar Wood of Missouri, who beat Dance. Calandrino is locked in to finish no lower than 6th.
The Cadets will wrestle their final pool session tommorow morning at 9:00am CST, which will determine who will wrestle for which placements in the finals. The Cadet Greco-Roman finals will then go down tommorow night at 5:30pm CST.
