Nieman, Osterman, Lyon lock up All-American spots
7/24 -The Junior Freestyle National Championships
wrapped up Day 2 of action today and all this is
left is the finals, which will take place tommorow
morning at 9:00am CST.
Three Michigan Juniors have earned the right to
call themselves All-Americans as Ryan Nieman,
Dan Osterman, and Brenan Lyon are all in the top
6 of their weights.
Nieman's only loss at 135lbs was his last match
as he won his first 7 before falling to returning
all-american Josh Dziewa of Pennsylvania.
Nieman, who will wrestle tommorow for 3rd place
against Jake Ballweg of Iowa., scored a few big
wins today. He scored an amazing touch fall over
Deven Bonds of Minnesota who is ranked 17th
nationally by InterMat and he also beat two
returning all-americans in Simon Kitzis and Jed Lightfoot.
Dan Osterman is also going to be an all-american at 135lbs. Osterman lost earlier today to CJ Napier of Kansas, who will be wrestling for 1st, however, he came back with a big win over Austin Ormsbee of New Jersey who is currently ranked 6th in the country at 135lbs by InterMat. Osterman lost his last match to Jake Ballweg of Iowa so he will now be wrestling for 5th place.
Brenan Lyon locked up his 7th all-american honor as he finished up strong at 105lbs. Lyon got caught and pinned earlier today by Caleb Richardson of Virginia, but came back with a big win over Jack Hathaway of Iowa. Hathaway beat Richardson and will wrestle for the championship.
