Juniors finish strong in Freestyle Nationals final session
7/25 - The never ending week that is Fargo came to an end today
as the Junior Freestyle Finals took place in the FargoDome.
Michigan's three all-americans all finished up with victories.
Brenan Lyon came back from losing the first period to beat
Damien Gomez of California 3-6, 6-3, 2-0 and finish 5th at 105lbs.
The win marks the last time that Lyon will ever compete on the
FargoDome floor. Over the past 4 years Lyon has ammassed 7
All-American plaques in this building.
Both Michigan All-Americans at 135lbs won in two straight
periods. Ryan Nieman won 1-1, 4-0 over Jake Ballweg of Iowa to
finish 3rd. Nieman broke Ballwegs solid defense late in the first
period to score the period winning takedown and then rattled off 4
straight takedowns in the 2nd period to win the match.
Dan Osterman was in complete control against Simon Kitzis of
Massachusets. Osterman blanked Kitzis in two consuective
periods with a 2-0, 1-0 win to finish 5th at 135lbs. Osterman
is now a double Junior All-American after finishing 4th in Greco-
Roman.
