Osterman is lone Michigan Junior Greco-Roman All-American
7/21 - As the dust settled today on the final day of the Junior
Greco-Roman National Championships in Fargo, ND, Dan
Osterman of St Johns was the only Michigan grappler still
standing.
Osterman, who won his 3rd MHSAA State Championship this
year and will be wrestling at Michigan State in the fall, won it
straight periods in his 5th place match at 135lbs.
Prior to the finals, Osterman won his final bout over eventual
finalist Joseph Locksmith of Florida, however, his earlier round
loss to Robert Fisher of Minnesota, who ended up 4th, caused a
three-way tie atop their pool. With the least round-robin points
earned among the three, Osterman finished 3rd in the pool based
on criteria, which forced him to wrestle for 5th place.
The All-American honor is the first for Osterman, who missed
last year's Junior National due to injury. The St Johns graduate
was the only Michigander to place in the competetion, and
Michigan will now look forward to the Freestyle portion of the
tournament, which will begin Thursday.
