MHSAA Team Regional Results

RECAP
--Division 1--
The biggest surprise was without a doubt Westland John Glenn knocking off #5 Temperance Bedford and Canton to advance to the quarterfinals. John Glenn had some big wins throughout the year, but even with them back to full strength a win over Bedford was hard to envision.
The highlight regional of D1 did not dissapoint as #7 Lake Orion edged #6 Anchor Bay 31-28 to advance to their second straight Battle Creek appearance. Lake Orion survived arguably the toughest road to Battle Creek in the state as they went through #10 Rochester Adams in their district and also had #8 Clarkston in their regional as well.
Other than that no real surprises - Rockford, Holt, DCC, Hartland and Roseville all made it through relatively unscathed.
--Division 2--
Lowell knocking off Greenville was without doubt the biggest regional matchup in the state. Greenville was considered to be not only the top team in D2 but one of the top few teams in the entire state. It is a shame that that match did not happen in the state finals, but what can you do? Now it will be Lowell vs. the field in Battle Creek. And the field is a little different than we were anticipating.
Eaton Rapids and long time coach Scott Warriner showed why they are one of the great dynasties in this state as they shocked the world by knocking off 3 ranked teams en route a quarterfinals berth. ER took out #8 Jackson Northwest at Districts then last night they upended #6 Tecumseh and #5 Fowlerville. They should head into Battle Creek now with a shot at getting a seed and keeping their cinderella story going with a first round win.
Also somewhat surprising was the way St Johns dismantled a tough Gaylord team to advance to their first Team State Finals trip in a looong time. The 9th ranked Red Wings are very dangerous because they can usually count on 4 or 5 big wins against anybody, so keep any eye on them in Battle Creek.
The top contenders to compete with Lowell, Stevensville Lakeshore and Oxford, both cruised to Regional Titles as did Dearborn Hts Annapolis who could garner a seed as well with their intimidating record.
Hazel Park got past Warren Woods Tower and Byron Center edged Hastings to earn quarterfinal berths as well.
--Division 3--
Top ranked Goodrich barely survived and remained alive for a shot at repeating as Genesee County rival Corunna nearly pulled off the upset. Goodrich downed #5 Corunna 28-25 to advance.
#8 Allendale was impressive as they dominated #10 Lakewood by nearly 40 points while #2 Allegan, #3 Swan Valley, #4 Dundee and #7 Richmond all cruised as well.
We got late report on the Chipp Hills regional, where unranked Shelby knocked off 6th ranked Chippewa Hills to advance to the quarterfinals.
--Division 4---
No real surprises in D4 - all the favorites made it through. #2 Hudson got the Addison monkey off their backs with a sound 41-18 Regional Finals win over their long time rivals.
