Rodriguez cruises to Junior Greco National Title
Massa, Calandrino, Gonzales finish as All-Americans
7/19 - Heading into this weekend it was commonly said that Freddie Rodriguez had won just about everything, however, the Holt sophomore had yet to win a National Title in Fargo. Until now.
Rodriguez used a mean gut wrench to score a 6-0, 7-0 technical fall over Vinnny Moita of California in the 105lb National Finals. Rodriguez, who was double all-american in 2009 including a runner-up finish in freestyle, is back and better than ever after sitting out of Fargo last year. He is now one step closer to the coveted USAW Triple Crown as he won the Folkstyle National Title earlier this spring and now with his Greco title, a Freestyle win later this week would complete the sweep.
Two-time Fargo double champ Taylor Massa suffered his first career loss on the FargoDome floor today when he was caught in a headlock by Andy McCulley of Wyoming. Massa won the 1st period 7-1 before finding himself on the wrong end of a left-handed headlock. He came back with three wins to finish 3rd at 152lbs and will now have to regroup for Freestyle in two days.
Alex Calandrino of Howell repeated his Greco All-American performance from a year ago as the sophomore finished 7th at 112lbs with a big win over #10 nationally ranked Cory Clark of Iowa in the finals.
Holly junior Esteben Gonzales rounded out Michigan's All-Americans as the 3x all-stater finished 8th at 119lbs.

Wrestling will resume tommorow morning with Cadet Freestyle action and the Juniors will be back on the mats Thursday morning for Freestyle.
