7 Michiganders lock up All-American honors
2010 NHSCA Senior Nationals

3/27 - Two Michiganders won this afternoon
in Virginia Beach to advance to the Senior
Nationals Championships Finals. Ryen
Nieman of Bulock Creek scored a 2nd
period fall over Cody Garbrandt of Ohio.
Nieman will square off with 4x State Champ
Luke Goetti of Arizona in the 135lb finals
tommorow.
Hartland senior Nick McDiarmid used two
overtime wins to advnance to the 215lb
finals. McDiarmid knocked off Wisconsin
state champ and nationally ranked Matt
Tourdout in the round of 16 and then scored
another overtime win over California state
runner-up JT Felix in the semifinals.
McDiarmid will now meet Illinois state
champ Matthew Dyer in the 215lb finals
tommorow.
Two Michiganders lost in the semifinals.
Ben Mathieson lost an 8-5 decision to 4x
Oregon state champ Tommy Siciliano. Matthieson will get an opportunity to wrestle back tommorow morning for 3rd, however, he is guaranteed All-American honors and a top 6 finish.
Troy Lamson of Swan Valley lost a tight semifinal match as well as he dropped a 3-2 decision #12 ranked Jesse Shanaman of Blair Academy. Lamson is in the same spot as Matthieson, wrestling back tommorow but guaranteed an all-american spot.
Three other seniors are still alive in the consolation rounds, but one match from guaranteeing All-American honors. Jake Byers (125), Josh Houldsworth (145), and Jake Dorulla (171) all have to win there next match to join the other 4 Michigan All-Americans.
Wrestling will resume tommorow morning with the finale of consolation rounds as well as the All-American rounds and the Championship Finals are set for 5:00pm tommorow night.
