Taylor Massa repeats as FILA Jr Freestyle National Champ

4/10 - St Johns junior Taylor Massa continued to turn heads on the national stage
as the 3x state champ won his 2nd straight FILA Jr. Freestyle National Title today.

Massa, who is rated as the top pound-for-pound junior high school wrestler in the
country, scored back-to-back wins over highly touted college freshman, Nick Sulzer
(Univ of Virginia) and Robert Kokesh (Nebraska), to win the 163lb freestyle title in
Cleveland, Ohio.

Massa's tournament win was impressive in itself, but the dominance of his wins
were even more stunning.  En route to his title, Massa scored a :49 pin over former
Ohio State Champ and Senior National Champ Nick Sulzer.  He also scored a 4-0,
8-0 shutout over 2x NJ State Champ Nick Visicaro, who started for Rutgers at 157lbs
this year,  and capped his day off with a 3-1, 2-1 win over Junior Freestyle Runner-Up
Robert Kokesh.  In the end, Massa won his 2nd straight FILA Jr Freestlye National
Title and did so without losing a period.

Three other Michigan preps earned All-American status, including two other big-
name juniors.  3x state champ Alec Mooradian (63kg) of DCC and 2x state champ
Jordan Thomas (79kg) of Greenville each finished 6th in their respective weight classes.  Grand Ledge freshman Martin Rodriguez finished 5th at the tournament's smallest weight class, 50kg.
