Grappler Prep Report - Week 8 Recap

Division 1
#1 Detroit Catholic Central: The Shamrocks traveled out of state for the weekend to take on Ohio’s #4 ranked team Cincinnati Moeller.  DCC wrestled a down to the wire battle with Moeller but ultimately came out behind losing by a final score of 30-28.

#2 Davison: Over the weekend a shorthanded Cardinals team competed in the very tough Holt invite.  The Cardinals were missing several key wrestlers from their lineup and finished the day if fourth place behind D1 #5 Temperance Bedford, D1 #7 Holt and Howell.

#3 Oxford: On Friday night the Wildcats competed at Michigan State University where they collided with the state’s top ranked team St Johns in dual meet action.  Oxford battled hard and picked up some big wins but came out behind, losing by a final score of 40-19.

#4 Hartland: The Eagles started their week on a high note when they picked up a 40-25 win over their division rival Howell on Wednesday night.  Hartland’ success continued on Saturday when the Eagles were champions at their home dual meet tournament.  The Eagle’s compiled a perfect 4-0 record on the day, scoring a 47-22 win over D2 #7 Holly in the finals to claim first place.

#5 Temperance Bedford: It was an impressive showing by the Mules at the Holt Invitational this weekend.  Four Bedford wrestlers won titles help the team to narrowly edge D1 #7 Holt for first place.  Other teams to finish below the Mules included Howell and D1 #2 Davison.

#6 Brighton: On Wednesday night Brighton picked up a big win when they knocked off Howell by a score of 49-21.  The Bulldogs continued their winning ways on Saturday when they cruised to a 5-0 record and first place finish at the Dexter duals tournament.

#7 Holt: The Rams took on some of their top competition in Division 1 on Saturday when they hosted the Holt Invite.  The Rams came within a few points of claiming a championship at their home tournament, but ultimately fell behind D1 #5 Temperance Bedford in the finals standings.  Teams finishing below Holt included Howell and D1 #2 Davison.

#8 Canton: Canton scored a big win early in the week when they topped their division rival Livonia Franklin by a score of 50-11.  The Chiefs competed in the Wayne County Championships on Saturday, where they fell just short of a county title, finishing the day in second place behind Southgate Anderson.

#9 Grand Ledge: The Comets were in action at the Holland West Ottawa Invite over the weekend.  It was a good day for Grand Ledge who had eight wrestlers win individual titles, leading them to a first place finish ahead of Kalamazoo Central and Holland.

#10 Hudsonville: On Saturday Hudsonville competed in a very strong field of teams at the Sparta Invite.  The Eagles placed fourth in the final team standings behind D2 #4 Greenville, D2 #6 Allegan and Sparta and ahead of Grand Haven, Lakewood and D3 #10 Comstock Park.

Division 2
#1 St Johns: On Friday the state’s top ranked Red Wings were in action at Michigan State University where they wrestled a dual against D1 #3 Oxford.  It was an impressive showing by St Johns who beat the highly ranked Wildcats by a score of 40-19.

#2 Tecumseh: The Indians cruised to a 5-0 record as well as team title when they hosted their home dual meet tournament over the weekend.  Tecumseh’s toughest challenge of the day came against Monroe who they defeated by a score of 51-21.  10 Tecumseh wrestlers went unbeaten on the day.

3 Lowell: The Red Arrows traveled south over the weekend to compete in the James V Horning Memorial tournament in Mason Ohio.  Three individuals won championships for Lowell, helping them to rack up 194 team points and finish in third place behind Mason and Olentany.

#4 Greenville: It was an impressive showing by the Yellow Jackets on Saturday who claimed first place at the very competitive Sparta Invitational.  Greenville had four individual champions en route to 231.5 team points.  Among the teams to finish behind the Yellow Jackets were D2 #6 Allegan, Sparta and D1 #10 Hudsonville

#5 Stevensville Lakeshore: The Lancers went up against some very tough competition in their home gym on Saturday when they hosted a dual meet tournament.  It was a frustrating day for Lakeshore who lost three duals against highly ranked opponents to finish with a 1-3 record.  The Lancers three losses came at the hands of D3 #1 Richmond, D3 #3 Lake Fenton and D4 #1 Hudson.  The lone win for Lakeshore came when they defeated D2 #8 Mason by a score of 38-15.

#6 Allegan: On Saturday Allegan was in action at the highly competitive Sparta Invitational.  The Tigers, lead by five individual champions, finished the day in second place less than fifteen points behind the eventual champion D2 #4 Greenville.  Among the teams to finish behind Allegan included Sparta, D1#10 Hudsonville and Grand Haven.

#7 Holly: The Bronchos traveled to Hartland on Saturday where they competed in a dual meet tournament.  It was a solid showing for Holly who reached the finals where they squared off with D1 #4 Hartland.  The Bronchos wrestled hard against the Eagles but ultimately fell by a score of 48-25 to finish in second place with a 3-1 record.

#8 Mason: The Bulldogs took on some elite competition when they wrestled in the Lakeshore Duals over the weekend.  Mason finished the day with a 1-3 record that included losses against D2 #5 Lakeshore, D3 #1 Hudson and D3 #3 Lake Fenton.  The Bulldogs picked up a win in the first match of the day when they defeated Niles 43-21.

#9 Linden: On Saturday the Eagles earned a team championship at the Walled Lake Northern Duals.  Linden scored wins over Waterford Kettering, Brighton “B”, and West Bloomfield to reach the finals.  The Eagles continued their winning ways in the finals where they knocked off Anchor Bay by a score of 48-25 to finish the tournament with a perfect 4-0 record.

Division 3
#1 Richmond: It was an extremely competitive week of wrestling for the Blue Devils that featured dual meets against four ranked opponents.  On Friday night the defending state champions fell to D4 #1 Hudson in a hard fought dual by a score of 27-24.  On Saturday Richmond saw some more tough competition at the Lakeshore Duals.  The Blue Devils finished the day with a 4-0 record that included wins over D3 #3 Lake Fenton, D2 #5 Stevensville Lakeshore and D2 #8 Mason.

#3 Lake Fenton: On Wednesday night Lake Fenton collided with D4 #2 New Lothrop in an intense dual that they ultimately lost by a score of 35-29.  The Blue Devils had mixed results on Saturday when they competed in the Lakeshore duals.  Lake Fenton dropped two duals against top ranked teams when they fell to D3 #1 Richmond and D4 #1 Hudson.  The Blue Devils ended the day on a positive note by defeating D2 #5 Stevensville Lakeshore by a score of 36-32.

#4 Remus Chippewa Hills: The Warriors claimed a team championship on Saturday when they competed in the Petoskey duals.  Chippewa Hills finished the day with a 5-0 record including wins over Kingsley and Ogemaw Heights.

#6 Shelby: On Wednesday the Tigers took on some high caliber competition when they fell to D4 #3 Hesperia by a score of 54-16.   On Saturday Shelby earned a first place finish at the Lakeview Invitational where they finished over fifty points ahead of 2nd place Fremont.

#7 Whitehall: On Saturday the Vikings dominated their way to a first place finish at the GMAA City Championships.  Whitehall accumulated 249.5 team points on the day, over 90 above second place Fruitport.

#10 Comstock Park: The Panthers took on some tough competition over the weekend when they wrestled in the Sparta Invitational.  Comstock Park finished seventh on the day behind a very strong field of teams that included D2 #4 Greenville, D2 #6 Allegan, Sparta and D4 #10 Hudsonville.

Division 4
#1 Hudson: It was an impressive week of wrestling by the Tigers who picked up several big wins over highly ranked opponents.  On Friday night the defending state champions picked up a huge win when they knocked off Division 3’s top ranked Richmond by a score of 27-24.  The Tigers continued to impress when they defeated D2 #5 Stevensville Lakeshore, D3 #3 Lake Fenton and D2 #8 Mason to finish the day undefeated at the Lakeshore Duals on Saturday.

#2 New Lothrop: The recent success of the New Lothrop wrestling team continued on Wednesday when the Hornets scored a thrilling 35-29 victory over D3 #3 Lake Fenton.  On Saturday the Hornets traveled to Ithaca where they competed in a very competitive individual tournament.  New Lothrop finished the day in second place behind D4 #3 Hesperia and ahead of D4 #10 Decatur and D4 #5 Dansville.

#3 Hesperia: The Panthers started off their week with an impressive victory when they defeated D3 #6 Shelby by a score of 54-16.  On Saturday Hesperia turned in a strong performance when they competed at the Ithaca individual tournament.  The Panthers finished the day in first place ahead of D3 #2 New Lothrop, D3 #10 Decatur and D3 #5 Dansville.

#4 Manchester: The Dutchmen turned in a first place performance on Saturday when they competed in the Bronson Invitational.  Manchester finished the tournament with a perfect 4-0 record that featured wins over Battle Creek Lakeview and Bronson.

#5 Dansville: On Saturday Dansville was in action at the Ithaca invitational where the team placed fourth in a seventeen team field.  D2 #3 Hesperia, D2 #2 New Lothrop and D2 #10 Decatur where the three teams to finish ahead of the Aggies.

#7 Rogers City: The Hurons competed in the Benzie Central tournament over the weekend where they earned a team title.  Rogers City was 5-0 on the day including close wins over Hart and Mount Pleasant.

#10 Decatur: The Raiders had an impressive showing at Ithaca on Saturday where they racked up 188.5 points to finish the day in the third place.  Decatur finished ahead of D4 #5 Dansville and behind only D4 #3 Hesperia and D4 #2 New Lothrop.
