Coon takes second step towards Triple Crown with Greco Title

Fargo Coverage Section

7/21 - After three days of freestyle war-zone filled the Fargo Dome, 17
champions were crowned in the Cadet division.  Michigan had three in
the championship finals, but only one finished atop the podium.

Incoming freshman phenom Mark Hall, who flew into Fargo directly from
Guatemala where he won the Cadet Pan-American Championship just
a couple days prior, lived up to the hype as he grinded through the 66-
man chart with a 10-0 record, only surrendering one period in the entire
tournament.  Hall scored a 1-0, 3-1 win over Myles Martin of New Jersey
in the finals.  Martin, a 2012 National Prep Champ, is the #4 overall
wrestler from the graduating class of 2015 according to InterMat.

In addition to Hall, Cole Weaver (126) and Landon Pelham (195) also
advanced to the freestyle finals.  Both were return appearances in the
finals and they were both pitted in a re-match from the Greco-Roman
finals.

Weaver, who won the Greco-Roman title 5 days prior, was on the
opposite end this time around, as he lost a thrilling three period match
with a controversial ending to Minnesota State Champ Seth Gross, who
is a top 50 recruit in next year's Junior Class.  En route to the finals,
Weaver scored 8 wins including victories over Fila Cadet All-Americans
Jacob Rubio of Texas and Fredy Stroker of Iowa.

Pelham squared off with Minnesota State Champion Lance Benick once again, after falling to him the Greco Finals.  Benick proved too much again, as he completed the Triple Crown, however, Pelham's road to the finals was much tougher than Greco.  He lost in the 2nd round, then battled back with three straight victories, including two falls to land a spot in the Freestyle Finals.

Dalton Roberts (88) of Fowlerville, Logan Massa (126) of St Johns, and Angus Arthur (170) of St Johns all finished in the top four in the respective weights after falling just short of making the finals.

Massa's lone loss of the tournament came to eventual champion Seth Gross of Minnesota.  He scored a big win over Rubio in the 3rd place match to finish 3rd in a deep, tough weight.

Roberts and Arthur finished 4th respectively.  For Arthur, it was double All-American honors after finishing 4th in Greco-Roman as well.  Arthur's lone loss in his pool was to eventual champion Ryan Christensen of Washington and came in dramatic fashion as he lost a 3-1, 3-3, 6-0 three period battle.

Grand Haven freshman Camden Bertucci put together an impressive showing at 106lbs, earning all-american honors at 106lbs.
