TheMat.com Senior Rankings Released
3/27 - USA Wrestling and TheMat.com released their senior level rankings this
week for Freestyle, Greco-Roman, and Womens Freestyle. These latest
rankings, which came out March 25th, will serve as the basis for seeding at
next week's US Nationals in Las Vegas, NV.
A handful of Michigan natives landed in the most recent rankings, including
Nick Simmons and Andy Hrovat, who are the #1 ranked Americans at 121lbs
and 185lbs. Simmons, a former 4x all-american at MSU and 4x state champ
from Williamston, currently resides and trains in Corvallis, Oregon and was an
Olympic team alternate last year. Hrovat, meanwhile, is a former all-american
for the University of Michigan and currently resides and trains in Ann Arbor
with the Wolverines. Hrovat was the 2009 US Olympic Team Member at
185lbs.
Other former Michigan top collegiates in the rankings include younger
Simmons brother Andy, who cracked the rankings for the first time in a couple
years. Andy is ranked 4th at 132lbs after placing 4th at the Dave Schultz Intl
this winter. Former Wolverine all-ameicans Ryan and Josh Churella are
ranked as well heading into the US Nationals. Josh is #7 at 145lbs and Ryan
is #5 at 163lbs.
Four current collegiates earned senior level rankings this year as well, led by
the Davison High School duo of Paul Donahoe (#8 121lbs) and Brent Metcalf (#6 at 145lbs). MSU's Franklin Gomez, fresh off his 133lb NCAA title, cracked the 132lb rankings at #10 and Michigan all-american Tyrell Todd is ranked 10th at 185lbs.
Goodrich senior and D3 state placer CC Weber made the cut in the Women's Rankings as she is currently ranked #4 at 105.5lbs.
