Hartland and Dundee win MYWAY Duals State Titles
2/25 - The Michigan Youth Wrestling Association continued their quest to build youth wrestling here in Michigan with their most highly competetive Dual State Championships yet.
The MYWAY Dual Championships require school-based teams, giving a preview look of some schools that may be top championship teams in the years to come. Most of the top finishing teams last weekend were familiar faces in both divisions, providing evidence that championship high school programs are built at the youth levels.
The Elementary Division champ Hartland is also currently the #3 ranked high school team in Division 1 while the Middle School champs Dundee are home of the #4 ranked team in Division 3. Both Hartland and Dundee, along with top finishers Davison, New Lothrop, and Lowell are all perennial prep wrestling powerhouses.
Hartland advanced to both the Elementary and Middle School Finals, knocking off Brighton 37-30 in the Elementary finals and falling to Dundee in the Middle School Finals. Hartland High School has a good shot at advancing to the High School Division 1 Finals in two weeks, which would make them state finalists at all three levels.
Dundee won the Middle School Division in dominant fashion, winning every dual by over 20 points. Dundee has been on of the premier programs in high school's Division 3 for years and with last weekend's middle school performance they are looking good to keep that tradition alive.
