Michigan finishes 2nd in New Jersey with 6 Individual Champions
8/5 - Two Michigan teams travelled to Long Branch, New Jersey last weekend for the NUWAY Summer Championships and came home with a lot of hardware.
In the Individual Tournament, 6 Michiganders won titles - Zack Cooper of Whitehall (130), Jordan Hall of Lowell (138), Nick Vandermeer of Clarkston (155), Devon Pingel of North Branch (167), Garrett Stehley of Lowell (200), and Ryan Prescott of Whittemore Prescott (295).
In the Dual Meet Tournament, Team Flat River Chubb Chubb started off strong, scoring a pair of dominant wins over Delaware and New Jersey squads to adadvance to the Championship Bracket. They won two very tight duals to advance to the finals. In the quarterfinals it was 27-18 over 631 Elite WC out of New York, then a 23-21 win over Team NYWAY out of New York. In the finals the Michiganders were on the losing end of a close dual, falling 24-20 to Iron Horse Blue out of New Jersey.
Team Michigan Gold Pitbulls was dominant in their pool as well, going 3-0 with two lopsided wins over New Jersey teams and a 27-18 win over tough TEam 78 out of New Jersey. In the Championship bracket MI Gold Pitbulls fell 36-11 to eventual champs Iron Horse Blue, then knocked off The Mat Factory out of Pennslyvania 29-20 before falling in their final bout to NYWAY 33-6.
