Massa and Rodriguez win FILA Cadet Freestyle Titles
4/26 -Freshmen Taylor Massa of St Johns and Freddie Rodriguez
of Holt continued to show why they are a couple of the premiere
up and coming wrestlers on the national scene right now. Massa
and Rodriguez both won today in the FILA Cadet Freestyle
National Finals.
Massa won his 152lb final bout 6-5, 7-1 over Cadet Freestyle All-
American Kaleb Freidley of Missouri. Massa was dominant in his
two days of competetion, as he finished 8-0, including 5 falls and
he did not surrender a single period throughout the tournament.
Massa, who was a Cadet Double Champ in Fargo last year,
knocked off three returning freestyle all-americans en route to his
FILA Cadet win this weekend.
Rodriguez won with ease in the 101lb finals, scoring a 7-0, 7-0
technical fall over Kevon Powell of Illinois in the finals. With the win Rodriguez, who was a Cadet National runner-up in Fargo last summer, earned his 1st freestyle national crown on the Cadet level and his 4th FILA Cadet all-american honor in two years. Rodriguez was a double all-american last year at the FILA Cadet Nationals and he finished 3rd earlier this weekend in Greco-Roman to go with his freestyle win.
Alec Mooradian of Detroit Catholic Central lost his final two pool bouts this morning to finish third in his pool. The freshman state champ then won his final match 2-1, 8-2 over Sean Raddatz of Illinois. Mooradian came out of a tough pool as he lost to eventual champ and nationally ranked PA state champ Nico Megadulis in three periods and he fell to the #1 ranked 103lber in the country, Nick Brascetta of St Paris Graham, Ohio, this morning.
Tyler Humes of Stevensville Lakeshore lost his first match this morning to returning Cadet Double All-American Seth Thomas of Oregon to finish just short of placing at 167lbs. Despite not placing, Humes had a strong showing as his only other loss came to eventual champ and returning Cadet National Champ Jahwon Akui of Illinois in a three period affair. Humes also defeated the eventual third place finisher, Levi Clemons of Florida.
