2010 MHSAA Team State Preview
DIVISION 4

MHSAA Dual State Championships
Kellogg Arena - Battle Creek, MI
February 26-27

Seeds & QuarterFinal Pairings:
#1 Hudson (34-3) vs Martin (25-16)
#4 New Lothrop (26-2) vs Iron Mountain (19-3)
#3 Addison (22-7) vs Constantine (37-3)
#2 Hesperia (33-1) vs Marlette (31-8)

---Quarterfinals---
#1 Hudson vs Martin
Facing Hudson is a tall task for Martin, or for
just about any team for that matter.  Hudson
enters the state tournament with 10
individuals ranked in the top 10 in their weight
class and it appears that #2 Hesperia is the
only team who can hang with them as they
dismantled #3 Manchester at Regionals.
Our Pick: Hudson +33

#4 New Lothrop vs Iron Mountain
This should be a good quarterfinal matchup.  Iron Mountain is not as scary as they were last year after graduating a few seniors, however, they are still one of Northern Michigan's best and they will give New Lothrop all they want in this quarterfinal round.  With 5 ranked wrestlers and a very solid core of middleweights, New Lothrop should be too much for Iron Mountain to handle, although IM has some studs sprinkled throughout that should keep them in the dual
Our Pick: New Lothrop +14

#3 Addison vs Contantine
With a 37-3 record, you cannot overlook Constantine.  Addison has alot of losses this year, but many are too bigger division schools and they are a perrenial power in Division 4.  Addison appears to have more depth throughout, however, Constantine should have 3 or 4 weights they can count on winning, so if they can win a couple of the other up in the air weights, they could make this interesting.
Our Pick: Addison +9

#2 Hesperia vs Marlette
With only three ranked wrestlers, Marlette appears to be severley out gunned here.  Hesperia is stacked with state champion contenders, including half of their weights in which they feature a top 3 ranked wrestler.  They should take command from start to finish of this dual.
Our Pick: Hesperia +35

--Semifinals--
#1 Hudson vs #4 New Lothrop
Hudson is heavily favored to win here, however, keep an eye on New Lothrop.  They have quietly put together a good season and they have a well dispersed lineup full of studs.  #1 Hilyard (H) vs #4 Krupp (NL) is a big time matchup to watch for, however, NL may try to bump Krupp away from Hilyard.  If things go well I could see New Lothrop winning 6 matches, however, I dont see them being able to win enough to knock off the returning champs.
Our Pick: Hudson +13

#2 Hesperia vs #3 Addison
Addison has a handful of big time studs in their lineup - unforunately for them most of those studs will meet up with higher ranked individuals against Hesperia.  For Addison to have a shot at pulling off this upset they would need someone like Ty DeFay to knock off #2 Mike Dunbar, or #9 Paul Gietek to knock off #2 Jordan Bosma, #9 Zak Stoner to upend #1 Collin Zeerip, #3 Kyle Fletcher to beat #2 Jordan Bates, and #6 Evan Schroeder to beat #3 Brett Martin.  All of these are at least somewhat feasable to win, but Addison would have to win a few of them, which is not so feasable.  Hesperia's a little deeper with a little more fire power and that will be the difference.
Our Pick: Hesperia +16

--Finals--
#1 Hudson vs #2 Hesperia
This is the Division 4 dual we have been waiting to see for the past year,
since Hudson knocked off Hesperia in Battle Creek last year.  This year
Hesperia will look to take over the reigns as D4's top squad, and it
should be another classic slugfest between Division 4's most storied
programs.

On paper I have them splitting 7 matches a piece, which would leave
bonus points to be the answer.  There are also toss up weights that
feature huge, possible Individual State Finals type matchups.  At 103
the potential #5 Rosencrants (Hes) vs #4 Mattison (Hudson) is big time.
Mattison beat Rosencrans earlier this year, however, the Hesperia
sophomore is a stud who is capable of turning that around.  There is
also a chance Hesperia bumps here to swap wins.  119 is another
marquee matchup with #2 Mike Dunbar and #5 Dakota Kelley.
#2 Bosma vs #3 Barnes is a matchup we may see again in Auburn
Hills and the 140lb matchup is the crown jewel of them all with #1 Marry
vs #2 Bates.  Hesperia will need to get the better of these toss-ups because Hudson appears to be more consistently solid throughout their lineup, at every weight.  The chips are stacked in favor of Hudson to repeat, however, don't be surprised if this dual is interesting.  It is a a bit of a role reversal from last year, where Hudson was the underdog trying to slay Goliath.
Our Pick: Hudson +3
