Burge wins Brute-Adidas Nationals, named Outstanding Wrestler
4/12 - A handful of Michigan preps competed last weekend at the Brute-Adidas Folkstyle Nationals in Kansas City, MO.  The only one to come away with the gold was Mason junior Jacob Burge.  Burge went 5-0 on the weekend with 4 falls and a 22-8 major decision in the finals.  For his efforts he was named the most outstanding wrestler of the Junior Division.

The tournament pits wrestlers of the same grade in school against each other.  Burge, a state champ this year at 160lbs in D2, won the 163lb weight class of the Junior Division.  Other Michiganders to make the finals were Cameron Amateius and Joel Vallier.  Amateius, who took 7th at 119lbs in Division 1 for Lanse Creuse this year, finished runner up in the sophomore 122lb weight class.  Vallier took 2nd in the junior division at 218lbs.

Along with Burge, two other Mason state champs earned top 4 finishes in their respective weight classes.  Craig Eifert, a 2006 state champ for Mason and all-stater this year, took 3rd in the sophomore 128lb bracket.  Garrett Rozeboom, a D2 state champ this year at 130lbs, took 4th at 133 in the junior division, losing to the same wrestler twice.
