Team Preview: Division 2
11/24 - Capping off Michigan Grappler's annual preseason coverage, the Division 2 preview has officially been released!  As has been the case in recent years, St. Johns enters the season as hands-down favorites to win a team state championship.The team currently has six wrestlers, such as senior Ben Whitford, who are ranked nationally by Flowresting, and will look to claim their fourth consecutive team title.  Click below to read all of the team previews, and be sure to stay tuned as the first competition date is less than two weeks away!

Preseason Individual Rankings Released
11/9 - Capping off a week that Michigan Grappler had dedicated to individual
preseason coverage, today's fourth and final installment will focus on Division 1.  Among those who enter the year ranked #1 is Davison 112lbr Lincoln Olson, a sophomore who will have his sights set on winning a second consecutive

Smith & Hall win JJ Classic Titles
10/29 - A strong group of Michigan high school standouts traveled west to Minnesota for the 2nd Annual JJ Classic.  In a tournament deep in Midwest talent, two Michiganders won titles.  Zac Hall, fresh off his GFC title two weeks ago, followed up with a JJ Classic Ttile at 126lbs while Mason Smith of Clio, who was runner-up at the GFC, won the 106lb title.  Click more for a full recap and listing of Michigan placewinners.

5 Michiganders repeat as GFC Champs
10/13 - Michigan wrestling was out in full force at the 3rd Annual Grappler Fall Classic, claiming 12 titles with some huge matchups and battles between standout prep wrestlers from Michigan, the Midwest, and the country.  Five Michiganders won their 2nd GFC Title. Mitch Rogaliner (119), Zac Hall (130), Mark Hall (152), and Gage Hutchison (285) all won titles to become 2x GFC Champions.  Click below for full results and video coverage.

Hutchison comitts to Eastern Michigan
7/25 - The month of August is nearly upon us, and with that the recruiting season should be getting into full swing.  The first commitment to roll in this summer comes from Gage Hutchison, a State Champ and Grappler Fall Classic Champ from Buchanan High

Michigan downs California to win Rumble
7/25 - Border Wars hosted the Grand River Rumble last weekend in Battle Creek, attracting teams from all over the country to compete in a dual-meet setting.  The High School division was won by Michigan Chub-Chub, who bareley edged Mob Squad Black out of California in the finals.   Michigan Gold Pitbulls out-gunned Team HYWAY in the Middle School finale while the Cincinatti Grapplers (Ohio) took home the Elementary title.  Click below for full results of each division and check out the Grappler Video Page to watch matches from the tournament.

Coon is King with Junior Freestyle Title
7/22 - The wild week that was Fargo is officially over as the Junior Freestyle Finals took place yesterday to wrap up the festivities.  Fowlerville 3x State Champ Adam Coon stormed through a loaded 285lb bracket to win the Freestyle National Title, adding to his Greco title from a few days prior and his Folkstyle Title a few months prior.  With that, Coon became the only Junior in the country to win the USAW Triple Crown.  Zac Hall of St Johns fell in the 120lb finals after a thrilling three period barn burner loss to Nathan Tomasello of Ohio.

Mark Hall strikes Fargo Gold in Cadet Freestyle
7/21 - After three days of hard fought freestyle battle in the FargoDome, 17 Cadets were crowned National Champions.  Three Michiganders made the finals with shots at National Titles, but only one came away atop the podium.  Incoming freshman phenom Mark Hall lived up to the hype as he won the 152lb weight class that featured 66 wrestlers.  Hall scored a 1-0, 3-1 win over NationalPrep Champ Myles Martin of New Jersey in the finals.  A total of 7 Michiganders earned All-American honors, click more for the full recap.

Coon takes 2nd step towards Triple Crown
Adam Coon wins Junior Greco Title, Kevin Beazley finishes Runner-Up
7/17 - The Junior Greco National Tournament finished up yesterday in Fargo, ND with two Michiganders in the finals.  Adam Coonwon the 285lb National Title with a 1-0, 8-0 win over Josh Marchock of Illinois.  With the title and Coon's
USAW Folkstyle National Title earlier this spring, he is just one title away from the Triple Crown.  Kevin Beazley lost a tight 1-0, 2-0 match in the 182lb finals
to finish runner-up for the 2nd year in a row in the Junior Greco Division.  Click more for the full recap, video, and results.

Massa, Whitford named ASICS All-Americans
5/30 - For 27 years Asics has been donning the top prep wrestlers in the country with the honor of ASICS All-American.  Last year Taylor Massa was the first Michigander named to the First Team since 2008.  This year, the state of Michigan landed two First Teamers in St Johns duo of Massa (170lbs) and Ben Whitford (138lbs).  Before this year there have been only 10 Michigan wrestlers named to the First Team and Massa joins Nick Simmons as the only other Michigan prep to make the First Team twice in their career.  Click more to see the list of MIchiganders on the Asics All-American Team, as well as the history of Michigan wrestlers on the team.

Michigan finishes 3rd at America's Cup
5/27 - Team Michigan went 2-1 on the final day of action at the America's Cup in Clovis, California.  Michigan fell in the semifinals to eventual champion
California Dream Team 31-15, but bounced back with a dominant 40-18 win over Oregon in the consolation finals.  Click more for full results of the Michigan matches.  Ken Bade (pictured) went 6-0 on the weekend at 120lbs.  Other undefeated wrestlers included Nick Trimble (138) and Brian Moran (220).

America's Cup Preview

Massa named Prep Wrestler of The Year
4/15 - Taylor Massa leaves St Johns High School as one of, if not the most accomplished prep wrestlers ever, not just in Michigan but in the country. Amazingly, he has never won MI Grappler's Prep Wrestler of The Year Award, until now. MI Grappler is excited to announce Massa as the 2012 Prep Wrestler of The Year.  The 4x undefeated state champ received an overwhelming response from the Coaches' votes and ended up with nearly 1,000 fan votes, receiving more selectionsthan any other candidate.  Click more to read the full recap on Massa as the 2012 Wrestler of The Year.

Behind the Scenes
3/5 - Many fans make a habit of attending the annual MHSAA individual state championships, marveling at the spectacular wrestling that occurs on The Palace floor.  However, what many of these fans don't realize is the amount of effort and organization that go on behind the scenes to make this tournament so successful.  Click more to read Jeff Chaney's full article on the efforts of Tournament Director Rob Nagy.

Lambert Works Toward "Elusive" State Title
2/8- “Everybody has a body that that can be shaped into a wrestler,” said Lambert, a senior 119-pounder for Forest Hills Eastern. “But the good wrestlers have that mindset, where they can't get enough and are always moving forward.” To date, Lambert has a 224-5 career record, 46-0 this year and is ranked first in the state in his weight classsecond nationally.

Limmex leads next crop of Red Arrow stars
12/14 - Much has been said and written about the strong group of seniors on the Lowell Wrestling Team, however, the next wave of superstars to come through the Red Arrow program may come from their current freshman class, and one stellar freshman already making noise is 125lb Nate Limmex who knocked off returning D1 State Champ Justin Oliver last weekend to win the Dorothy McClenthan Classic in East Kentwood.  Click more to read Jeff Chaney's full story on Limmex and the future of the Red Arrow program.

Whitford Picks U of M
12/13 - Last week Ben Whitford became yet another blue chip recruit who has committed to wrestle for the  University of Michgan.  The St. Johns junior is currently ranked as the nation's #2 recruit in the class of 2013 by Intermat  He will join current teammate Taylor Massa in Ann Arbor, another high profile recruit who has committed to the Wolverines.  Click more to read the full article on Whitford's commitment

Davison wins McClenthan Invite
12/12 - The biggest tournament of the opening weekend went down in East Kentwood as the #2 team in Division 1, Davison, edged #4 Brighton and Dundee (#2 D3) to win the
first ever Dorothy McClentan Memorial Invitational.  Lowell (#2 D2), wrestling with half their starters, crowned three champions who all scored big wins over state champions.  Nate Limmex knocked off Justin Oliver of Davison at 125lbs, Gabe Morse pinned Anthony Gonzales of Holly at 140lbs, and Andrew Morse scored a 11-3 major decision over Austin Scogg of Rockford at 152lbs.  Click below to watchvideos from the McClenthan Memorial Invite as well as other results from the weekend.

Taylor Simaz joining brother Cam at Cornell
11/1 - A couple weeks ago Taylor Simaz announced his intentions to wrestle for Cornell next year.  Simaz will look to contine to the family tradition at Cornell, where his brother Cam is a senior this year for the Big Red and the #1 ranked 197lber in the country.  Click more for Steve Widzinski's full story on Taylor following Cam to Ithaca, NY.

Massa, Whitford dominate at Super 32
10/30 - Taylor Massa and Ben Whitford of St Johns were the only Michigan wrestlers to make the finals of the Super 32 Challenge this weekend in Greensboro and they both made arguably the toughest prep tournament in the country look easy as they cruised to titles.  It was the first Super 32 belt for both wrestlers.  Whitford scored a 13-3 major decision in the 138lb finals over Austin Matthews of PA that capped off two days of wrestling in which he scored 5 falls and one techincal fall to reach the finals.  Massa, meanwhile, won his first Super 32 title with a 16-6 throttling of Elliot Riddick out of PA in the finals, which was his closest match of the tournament.

Dean gives verbal to Cornell
10/28 - Michigan's senior class continues to roll in big-time college commitments as Gabe Dean, the #5 recruit in MIchigan and a Top 30 recruit in the country, has announced that he will wrestle for Cornell following his senior season.  Dean, a State Champ and FloNational Runner-Up, is also a 3-year starter at Quarterback for Football juggernaut Lowell who was heavily sought after to play football.  He chose wrestling, and he chose to do it at Cornell.  Click more for the full story from The Grand Rapids Press.

Spartans land Wohlfert
10/10 - Returning State Champ Jordan Wohlfert of St. Johns verbally committed to Michigan State University.  Wohlfert, a former Cadet Freestyle National Champion and FloNational Runner-Up, projects at 165 for the Green and White.  He is the #8 recruit in the state this year and the 2nd big-time recruit from St Johns to committ in as many weeks.

10/3 - 3x State Champ Taylor Massa of St Johns released the news that many have been waiting for today as the nation's top recruit announced his intentions to wrestle for the University of Michigan next fall.  Massa, who has not lost a match in his prep career, has been one of the most highly sought after recruits to come out of Michigan in a long time.  Check back for a full story on Massa's signing.

9/30 - Michigan Grappler's Preseason Team Rankings for the 2011-12 High School season have been released and not a whole lot of surprises over the top ranked teams this year going in - DCC (D1), St Johns (D2), Richmond (D3), and Hudson (D4) are the preseason favorites.

From Sparta to Spartan - Trimble picks State
9/29 - The 2nd college commitment of the week came in as returning Division 2 State Champion Nick Trimble of Sparta has reported that he will still be a Spartan after this year for Michigan State University.  Trimble, who projects at 141lbs for MSU, is the #10 recruit in this year's senior class.

Beazley verbals to Old Dominion
9/28 - The first big Michigan commitment of this fall has been reported as DCC senior Kevin Beazley informed MI Grappler this week that he will be attending Old Dominion University to wrestle for coach Steve Martin following his senior season this year.  Beazley, one of the Top 10 recruits in Michigan's star-studded senior class, projects at 184 for the Monarchs.  Click more to read the full story on his commitment.

Coon is World Champion!
8/25 - Fowlerville 2x State Champ Adam Coon did something that no American
has done in over a decade, winning the FILA Cadet Freestyle World
Championship.  Coon, competing at 100kg (220lbs), scored a pin in the finals over his opponent from Georgia to win the title.  No American has won
a Cadet World Championship in any style since 1999.  The event is being
held in Hungary and will continue with Greco-Roman action this weekend.

Out-of-state squads prevail at G.R. Rumble
8/3 - Last Sunday teams from all over the country came to Battle Creek for the Grand River Rumble and in the end, the state of Michigan was out-gunned in every division.  Orange Crush (Ohio) prevailed three grueling bracket duals over Michigan sqauds Flat River, MYWAY, and Chippewa Hills to win the High School Division.  The Ohio Grapplers won the Middle School division over Flat
River (MI), and a pair of Indiana teams battled for the Elementary Division title with CIA knocking off Team HYWAY.  Click below for full results and videos.

Whitford adds Junior Freestyle Title

7/24 - After claiming a Junior Greco Roman title earlier in the week, Ben Whitford added to his already gaudy trophy case by claiming a Junior Freestyle title as well. Whitford was one of five All-American's who helped propel Michigan to a strong 6th place team finish.  Also turning in impressive performances were Tim Lambert (119) and Adam Coon (215) who both earned 3rd place finishes.  Jordan Thomas (171) had another solid Fargo outing by placing 5th on a loaded chart, and first-time All-American Brant Schafer (130) rounded out the AA's with a 6th place finish. Hall among 6 Cadet Freestyle All-Americans
7/24 - Team Michigan continued its strong Fargo performance in the Cadet Freestyle division where six wrestlers achieved All-American status.  The highest placer was returning AA Zac Hall (105) who earned a 3rd place finish.  Other top performers for the Cadets were 4th place finishers Cole Weaver (119) and Brian Moran (215), as well as Drew Garcia (152) who placed 5th in a stacked weight class.  Incoming freshman Lincoln Olson (91) proved he will be a force this year by finishing 7th, and Logan Marcicki (140) placed 8th after injury defaulting in his final three matches.  Click more to read the full recap of what went down in the Cadet Freestyle division.

Juniors finish 4th in Freestyle, Schmitt goes 9-0
6/28 - The Michigan Junior National Team fell just a few points shy of advancing to the
Championship Match of the Junior Freestyle Duals last weekend before finishing in 4th.  Jacob Schmitt went a perfect 9-0 at 119lbs to make the All-tournament team and a handful of others scored big wins en route to one and two loss records.  Click more for a full recap and results.

MI takes 8th at Jr Greco Duals; Coon unbeaten
6/26 - Fowlerville sophomore Adam Coon continues to dominate the national Greco-Roman scene as the 2010 Cadet Greco Champ and 2011 Fila Cadet Greco Champ went a perfect 9-0 at the Junior Greco-Roman Duals in Oklahoma City, OK this weekend to lead Team Michigan to an 8th place finish.  Click more for the full recap, records, and results.

Oliver goes unbeaten at Cadet Freestyle Duals
6/25 - Last weekend the Michigan Cadet National Team put together an impressive showing at the Cadet Duals in Daytona Beach, Florida which included top 4 finishes in both freestyle and greco-roman.  The Freestyle team finished 4th led by Davison freshman state champ Justin Oliver who was 8-0 at 119lbs to make the All-Tournament team.  Click more to see all the Michigan results as well as the individual record of everyMichigan cadet who competed in freestyle.

Team Grappler takes 6th at Militia Duals
6/25 - Michigan Grappler and MYWAY sponsored a team of high schoolers that
traveled to Atlanta, GA last weekend to compete in the Militia Duals. Competing against some of the best wrestlers in the south, Team Grappler finished 6th led by a 7-0 performance from 2x State Finalist Mitch Rogaliner.  Lelund Weatherspoon and Angelo Latora both put together 6-1 records to also lead Team MI Grappler.  Click more for the full results, records, and videos.

Massa makes Junior World Team
5/23 - The Fila Junior World Team Trials were held last week and St. Johns junior Taylor Massa, who came in as the #1 seed after winning the FILA Jr National Tournament last month, won the best-of-three Trials final over University of Virginia freshman Nick Sulzer to earn a spot on the Junior Freestyle World Team.  Massa will represent the US in Bucharest, Romania July 26-31.

Freeze wins Grand Challenge HS Division
5/23 - The Midwest Grand Challenge High School Division came down to a pair of Michigan teams filled with state champs and all-state wrestlers.  Michigan Freeze, behind some big time individual wins, knocked off the top seeded Boudro Wrestling.  Out of state teams won the Middle School and Elementary Division with Flat River finishing runner up in Middle School and Michigan Grappler Select finishing runner up in Elementary.  Click more for the full results, recap, and video.

2nd Annual Grappler Fall Classic set!
5/8 - Last October MI Grappler's innagural Grappler Fall Classic brought an unprecedented level of high caliber high school wrestlers from across the
country to Tecumseh, Michigan for the first year event that attracted over 400 high school wrestlers from 11 different states.  Last year's event featured over 100 all state wrestlers as well as over a dozen college coaches in attendance. Next year's Grappler Fall Classic is all set for October 15th, with the addition of Middle School and Elementary Divisions to compete on October 16th.  The 2nd Annual Fall Classic will also feature a newregistration proccess allowing for highly accomplished wrestlers to register early.  Click more to see all the details for the 2nd Annual Grappler Fall Classic.

Updated Recruiting Rankings released
5/3 - Michigan Grappler's revised Recruiting Rankings have been released for the Senior class of 2011.  The final recruiting rankings for thisyear's senior class list the top 150 pound-for-pound senior recruits in Michigan.  3x State Champs Roger Wildmo & Conor Youtsey are the top two recruits.  State Champs Joey White of Dundee and Matt Frisch of Oxford are the only Top 10 recruits who remain un-committed for college.  Click more to see the top recruits and where they are wrestling in college.  Check back later this week for the top recruits in the Class of 2012 (Juniors).

2011 Dream Team unveiled!
5/1 - The 5th annual Michigan Grappler High School Dream Team has been released and can be viewed by clicking below.  This year's Dream Team consisted of an unprecedented number of underclassmen with over half of the team being made up of non-seniors.  The Dream Team, which consists of the Wrestler of the Year, First Team, Second Team, Third Team, and five honorable mention selections, will be featured on the Dream Team posters which will be available later this Spring.

Coon doubles up at FILA Cadet Nationals
4/24 - The freestyle portion of the FILA Cadet Nationals wrapped up today in Akron, OH with Adam Coon making it two titles in one weekend.  After winning the 220lb Greco title Thursday, Coon capped the unbeaten weekend off with a Freestyle title as on Saturday.  The Fowlerville sophomore,  a 2x State Champ, dominated his pool before knocking off returning Cadet National Champ Ty Walz in the finale.  The final match was a rematch from Fargo last year when Walz defeated Coon.  Four other Michiganders made the finals but fell short of placing, click more to see the full recap.

Roger Wildmo named Wrestler of the Year
4/21 - The 2010-11 season has been a memorable one for Roger Wildmo as the Durand senior has won his 3rd State Championship in addition to winning the Grappler Fall Classic, Super 32 Challenge, and the FloNationals.  Now, Wildmo can add one more honor to his resume, the title of Michigan Grappler High School Wrestler of The Year.  Wildmo edged fellow finalists Taylor Massa and Conor Youtsey in both the online fan poll as well as the coaches voting. Massa wins Fila Junior National Title
4/10 - St Johns junior Taylor Massa continued to turn heads on the national stage as the 3x state champ won his 2nd straight FILA Jr. Freestyle National Title today.  Massa, who is rated as the top pound-for-pound junior high school wrestler in the country, scored back-to-back wins over highly touted college freshman, Nick Sulzer (Univ of Virginia) and Robert Kokesh (Nebraska), to win the 163lb freestyle title in Cleveland, Ohio.  For his efforts Massa was named Outstanding Wrestler of the tournament.  Three other Michiganders: Alec Mooradian, Jordan Thomas, and Martin Rodriguez, earned All American status by placing in the top 6 of their weights.  Click more for a full recap.

Wildmo wins FloNational Title, 3 finish runner-up

4/4 - The 2011 FloNationals wrapped up Sunday at Walsh Jesuit High School and after
advancing four wrestlers to the championship finals, Roger Wildmo was the only one

Michigan finishes 7th at Senior Nationals

4/3 - The state of Michigan finished 7th at the 2011 NHSCA Senior Nationals with a final count of 7 All-Americans.  Brian Gibbs of Bedford and Joey White of Dundee were the highest placing Michiganders, each finishing 4th at their respective weight classes.  Click more for a complete rundown of the Michigan results from the Senior Nationals.

Four Michiganders win USAW Folkstyle Titles
4/3 - The USAW Folkstyle Nationals, the 1st leg of the USAW Triple Crown, were held this weekend in Cedar Falls, IA and a handful of Michigan Cadets and Juniors earned All-American status including four grapplers who won National Titles to take the first step towards a Triple Crown.  Returning Junior Triple Crown winner Freddie Rodriguez of Grand Ledge (pictured) won the Junior 119lb title as he moves a step closer to repeating as Triple Crown winner this year.  Click more for full recap.

2x state champ Smith makes college choice
3/14 - Just a week after the state tournament and already a big college commitment from one of Michigan's top seniors.  2x Division 2 state champion Quean Smith of Highland Park has informed Michigan Grappler that he has verbally committed to wrestle for Iowa State University.  Smith, who won both his titles at 285, will wrestle for head coach Kevin Jackson, who is a Michigan
native and former Olympic Gold Medallist.

3/1 - Four state titles were won last weekend in Kellogg Arena as St Johns, Richmond, and Hudson all repeated in D2, D3, and D4.  The only new champion crowned was Oxford who out-did Detroit Catholic Central in an epic showdown that came down the last match.

Greenville tops Lowell in Westside showdown
2/4 - A pair of West Michigan juggernaut wrestling programs hooked up last night as Greenville, ranked #4 in Division 2, made the short drive to do battle with their old rivals, #3 ranked Lowell.  The Jackets won 8 of the 14 matches to out-gun Lowell 34-27 in what is always an exciting dual.   Click more for the box score of the dual and check back for videos.

Hartland takes down Brighton
1/27 - On Wednesday night #4 Hartland hosted #6 Brighton in an intense battle betweed two of Division 1's top teams.  It was a close dual with each team winning seven matches, however in the end bonus points made the difference as Hartland won by a final score of 32-24. Top ranked DCC downs #2 Oxford 36-17

1/9 - Some of Michigan's top teams and individuals were in attendance at CC
High School yesterday for the annualDCC Invite.  The host Shamrocks showed

Durand Senior becomes 4th Michigan wrestler in history to win Super 32
11/1 - The 2010 Super 32 Challenge came to an end last night and after two days of action and over 1500 wrestlers competing in the high school division, 8 Michiganders ending up placing in the top 8 of their respective weight classes, including Roger Wildmo of Durand who won the 140lb title with a 6-5 finals win over Indiana State Champ Jason Tsirtis who is currently ranked 3rd in the country at 135lbs.  Wildmo becomes the 4th Michigander in history to win the Super 32, following 2x Champ Jackson Morse who won the last two years.  Click more for a full recap and results.

10/26 - Official high school practices are less than a month away, and with that Michigan Grappler's previews for the 2010-2011 season will be coming out over the coming weeks.  Today, our first batch of individual rankings for the 10-11 season were released.  The rankings feature the top 5 individuals at each weight, across all divisions. 10/16 - The 1st Annual Grappler Fall Classic wrapped  up at 10:50pm tonight in Tecumseh, Michigan with 15 individuals crowned champions of the first ever
Grappler Fall Classic.  Roger Wildmo of Durand was named Outstanding Wrestler after defeating 3x Montana State Placer Britton Thompson in the 152lb

8/10 - The second member of the 2011 Michigan graduating class has announced his college commitment as Camryn Jackson of Lansing Eastern
informed Michigan Grappler over the weekend that he will be wrestling for the
University of Michigan following his senior season next year.  Jackson, who was a Division 1 State Placer last year, surged onto the scene this summer with an all-american performance in Fargo, finishing 6th in Junior Freestyle at 130lbs.  He projects at 141 for the Wolverines.

Rodriguez upsets top ranked Silver to win Fargo Double Title

7/25 - Freddie Rodriguez's magical off-season continued yesterday in Fargo as the Holt sophomore scored one of the biggest wins of his young career, knocking off the top ranked 112lber in the country, Evan Silver of Blair Academy, in the Junior Freestyle 112lb Finals.  Rodriguez, who won the Greco title at 105 earlier this week, bumped up to 112 for

7/20 - Entering this week Holt sophomore Freddie Rodriguez had won just about everything, however, he had yet to win in Fargo...until now.  Rodriguez used a nasty gut-wrench this afternoon to score a 6-0, 7-0 tech-fall over Vinny Moita of California to win the 105lb Junior Greco-Roman National Championship.  Taylor Massa (152lbs), Alex Calandrino (112lbs), and Esteben Gonzales (119lbs) finished as all-americans as well.  Click more for full recap and results.

Grappler Fall Classic Registration now Open!
7/14 - Early Registration for the 1st Annual Grappler Fall Classic is now open.  The
Grappler Fall Classic will take place October 16th at Tecumseh High School in Tecumseh, Michigan and will be a high school event for wrestlers from all across the country to showcase their abilities in a collegiate setting.  The Fall Classic will feature college style rules with college riding time, extended out-of-bounds rules, and a crew of collegiate officials.  The Classic is open to any athletes Grade 7-12 for the 2010-2011

Michigan, PA dominate Disney Duals
7/3 - The Disney Duals wrapped up last weekend in Orlando and in the end it was all Michigan and PA at the top of the standings as three Michigan squads
finished in the Top 6 and the other teams in the Top 6 were from Pennsyvania.  Michigan Blue, led by 3x state champ Tyler Keselring of Greenville (pictured),

6/30 - The Junior Duals wrapped up Monday with the final day of freestyle competetion.  The event was stacked with powerhouse wrestling states like Minnesota, Illinois, Ohio, Iowa, New Jersey, Wisconsin and more bringing their top prep talent to battle it out.  Team Michigan finished 6th overall behind the efforts of three undefeated wrestlers.  2x Fargo Double Champ Taylor Massa, former Fargo Runner-Up Freddie Rodriguez, and freshman phenom Adam Coon went undefeated in their respectiveweights.  Conor Youtsey also excelled going went 10-1 in freestyle, knocking off three former Fargo All-Americans and two wrestlers currently ranked top 5 nationally.  Click more for the full recap, complete results, and final records of the Michigan wrestlers.

Schmitt & Coon go perfect at Cadet Duals
6/21 - Team Michigan doubled up in Minnesota this weekend, placing in the top 6 at the Cadet Freestyle Duals just days after finishing in the top 6 in Greco.  The Michigan Cadets finished 6th in Freestyle after falling to Missouri 39-34 in the final round.  Two Michiganders went undefeated on the weekend to make the Freestyle All-Tournament Team: Jacob Schmitt (105lbs) and Adam Coon (215lbs).  Both Schmittand Coon scored big wins on their way to the all-tournament teams, Schmitt knocked off NJ State Champ and nationally ranked Anthony Ashnault while Coon avenged previous losses to Michael Kroells of Minnesota, who beat him days earlier in Greco and this spring at the Folkstyle Nationals.  Click more for a full recap.

6/19 - Many of the top senior grapplers in the state of Michigan squared off last night in
Hartland for the MWA Classic, and the featured match of the night between Ida's Nick Smith and Swan Valley's BJ Suitor did not dissapoint.The battle of 3x state champs ended with a last second, match winning Smith takedown that gave him an 8-7 lead, and the victory.  Other notable wins came from Nick Humes at 145lbs,who knocked off Division 1 State Champ Doug Eldridge 10-3, and Jake Dorulla who won a battle of state champs over Tyler Humes 5-4.  Click more for a full recap and results.

6/17 - The Cadet Greco-Roman National Duals wrapped up today in Rochester, MN and Team Michigan finished in 5th place after accumulating a 7-3 record over the past two days.  Three Michiganders went 9-1 in Greco-Roman action, including returning Cadet Greco All-American Jacob Schmitt, who knocked off fellow Greco All-American Nate Thomas of Minnesota. 6/5 - The America's Cup wrapped uptoday in California with three MI wrestlers finishing 4-0.  7th gradephenom Mark Hall scored the biggest win of his career as he upset 2x California state champ Alex Cisnerosin the final dual of the weekend.  Cisneros is ranked 3rd in the country at 112lbs by InterMat.  FreddieRodriguez and Devin Pommerenke went undefeated as well. 4/14 - Michigan Grappler's list of the Top Juniors has been released and the top has stayed much the same as the Top 4 wrestlers in this year's group are the same exact top four from last year's Top Sophomore Class with Roger Wildmo, Conor Youtsey, Joe Rendina, and Devin Pommerenke heading the Class of 2011.  Click more to view the full list as well as Recruiting Profiles for the Top 15.

Rodriguez & Trice Double Up in Akron
4/11 - CMU All-American Jarod Trice (pictured left) and Holt state champ Freddie Rodriguez (right) both won Freestlye titles today at the FILA Cadet/University Nationals in
Akron, Ohio, giving them the title of "Double Champs" as they both also won Greco titles two days ago.  Three Michigan preps earned All-American honors in the FILA Cadet Division while a total of 5 Michigan collegiates placed in the University Division.  Click more for full recap and results.

Best in Class: Top Seniors List Released
4/8 - Kicking off our post-season class rankings for this year we have our final set of class rankings for the Senior Class of 2010.  This year's senior class marks the first ever class that Michigan Grappler has covered as Freshman thru Seniors as we launched back in 2007 when Morse, Nieman, and Dorulla were baby-faced freshman.  Click below for our final list of the Top Senior Recruits for this year, as well where these guys have committed.  We have a list of the top unsigned recruits below as well and Recruiting Profiles are available for the top 40 senior recruits.  Class rankings for Juniors, Sophomores, and Freshman will be coming out in the next week.

2010 HS Wrestler of the Year: Jackson Morse
4/6 - The results are in and the majority agrees - Lowell senior Jackson Morse is the 2009-2010 Michigan Grappler High School Wrestler of the Year.  Morse won the majority of the voting from the MichiganGrappler.com fan poll as well as our poll of High School coaches.  In the fan poll,a total of 856 votes were tallied and Morse received exactly 1/2 of those votes with 431.  Ryen Nieman followed with 330 votes (39%) and Nick McDiarmid racked up 95 votes (11%).  Click more for our full story on this year's High School Wrestler of the Year, Jackson Morse.

Rodriguez, Foley, Hall win Folkstyle Nationals
4/5 - USA Wrestling hosted the first leg of their National Triple Crown this weekend with the Folkstyle Nationals in Iowa and three Michiganders won titles.  Holt sophomore Freddie Rodriguez followed up his FloNational title with another dominant performance, beating returning Cadet Double All-American Derek Elmore of IL in the 112lb finals.  South Lyon junior Tyler Foley won the Junior 105lb title and middle school phenom Mark Hall of Davison, who was a Kentucky High School State Runner Up as a 7th grader this year dominated the Schoolboy 128lb division.  Click more for full results and recap.

National Champions crowned in Ohio & Virginia
3/29 - Last weekend may have been the most significant weekend of high school wrestling that falls between the State Tournament and Fargo as two premeiere national tournaments went down, the NHSCA Senior Nationals and the FloNationals.  Michigan was among the top states in both tournaments, crowning a total of 6 National Champions - Nick McDiarmid and Ryen Nieman at the Senior Nationals and Freddie Rodriguez, Conor Youtsey, Taylor Massa, and Devin Pommerenke at the FloNationals.  Click below for full recaps.

Morse knocks off #1 Alton at Dapper Dan Classic
3/22 - The Dapper Dan Wrestling Classic is held annually in Pittsburgh, PA and showcases the top prep wrestlers from the state of Pennsylvania against the best that the nation has to offer.  Just being invited to the classic alone is a great honor and this year, for the first time in recent memory (at least dating back to 2000), the state of Michigan had two representatives in the Dapper Dan. Three time state champions Jackson Morse of Lowell (pictured) and Ryen Nieman of Bullock Creek were both selected to represent the US team in the Dapper Dan this past Saturday.  Morse came away with 7-6 win over current #1 152lber  Dylan Alton.  Click more for full results.

Wass committs to Gardner-Webb
3/14 - Swan Valley senior Darius Wass did not wait long after wrapping up prep career to make his college plans as he recently announced his intentions to wrestle for Gardner-Webb University in North Carolina.  Wass, who is a 4x all-stater and 2x Division 3 state finalist, was ranked as the #10 recruit in Michigan in our fall recruiting rankings.
