12/17 - Entering this season there was a lot of hype swirling around Dundee's freshman duo
of Chris Rau and Joey Rendina at 103 & 112lbs. Rendina made noise this past summer
when he knocked off 2x state champ Kyle Waldo of Rockford at the Disney Duals.
Last weekend Rau matched his teammate as he upset a returning state champ of his own.
In the 103lb finals of the Swan Valley Invite Rau scored a 9-3 decision over Swan Valley's
returning D3 champ BJ Suitor. The loss was the first of Suitor's career as he went a perfect
60-0 last year as a freshman.
For Rau the win moved him to a perfect 12-0 thus far in his freshman campaign and solidified
him as one of the elite 103lbers in the state. It also earned him Michigan Grappler/MYWAY
wrestler of the week honors. Rau benefits from a great training atmosphere as he works out
regularly with Rendina, Derek Borsvold, Joey White, and the rest of the superb Dundee
lightweights. He credits these workout partners, along with Tim Roberts, Frank Davis and
the rest of the Dundee coaching staff for his success on the mat.
Michigan Grappler would like to congratulate Chirs Rau for being the Prep Wrestler of the Week for the week of December 10th. To nominate future preps for wrestler of the week email results@michigangrappler.com.
