11 Michiganders claim TOC crowns in Ohio
4/26 - The state of Michigan was well represented in Columbus, OH this
weekend for the always tough Ohio Tournament of Champions. The TOC, which
fields competitors from 8 and under Bantams through high school Elite and
Open divisions, is renowned as the largest one day tournament in the world.
11 Michigan wrestlers came back from Columbus with TOC titles, including
Davison's Mark Hall who was the only returning Michigan champ to repeat this
year. Hall, who won the Junior 90lb title, is currently leading the Michigan
Grappler Fab 50 standings and will now add to his lead with a win here.
A few other youth wrestlers who currently sit near the top of the Fab 50
standings to win TOC crowns were Freddie Rodriguez (#7) who won at Cadet
92lbs, Justin Oliver (#8) who won in Junior 78lbs, and Schoolboy 70lb champ
Martin Rodriguez (#9).
Many top name high school grapplers were in attendance as well, including Mason sophomore Nick McDiarmid who won the Cadet 200lb title. McDiarmid was a Division 2 state runner up this year for Mason. The only other Michigan prep to win was Swan Valley 3x All-Stater Jared Germaine won the Elite 119lb title.
