Lyon, Yates, McClure advance to Senior National Finals
Michigan sits 2nd in team standings following second day of action

4/3 - Going into the third and final day of the
NHSCA Senior Nationals the state of Michigan
sits 2nd in the standings, just 13 points behind
New York.  Three Michiganders have advanced to
the championship finals.  Brenan Lyon of Ithaca
scored a 13-2 major decision of North Carolina
state champ John Bention to advance to the
103lb finals.  Lyon will square off with Ohio
runner up Brian Hauser in the finals.

The 2nd Michigan grappler to win in the
semifinals and advance to the National finals was
Hesperia 3x state champ Dan Yates.  Yates
scored a huge win in the quarterfinals over Ohio
state champ Kyle Lang before downing Turgoth
Luvandsdorj in the semifinals.  Yates will now
meet Iowa state champ John Nicholson in the
160lb finals.

Michael McClure of Holland West Ottawa was
the third Michigander to land a spot in the finals
as he pulled out two marquee wins yesterday at
285lbs including a 5-2 semifinal win over Jeremy
Johnson of Ohio, who is currently ranked 5th
in the country by Amateur Wrestling News.  McClure will now meet #1 ranked Eloheim Palma of North Carolina in the 285lb finals.

Three other Michigan seniors lost in the championship semifinals, but are guaranteed to finish in the top 6 and earn all-american status.  Kyle Waldo of Rockford lost 7-1 to Sean Boyle of NJ at 119lbs while Craig Eifert lost 8-3 to 4x NM champ Max Ortega at 140lbs and Robert Nash of Roseville went down 13-3 to Zach Clemente of NY at 145lbs.

Four other wrestlers are still alive in the consolation bracket and are just one match away from locking up all-american honors.  Today they will wrap up all the consolation and all-american rounds and the championship finals will go down tonight
